One of the great holiday movies to have a good laugh and celebrate the jolly season.

scrooged!
by B. E Jackson (Pennsylvania)
I like when Bill Murray was talking to a ghost for the first time and the ghost warned him that three ghosts were about to visit Bill Murray the next day and Bill Murray said "Maybe I can squeeze them in before breakfast!" which prompted the ghost to grab Bill Murray by the throat and dangle his body outside the building.
Other funny scenes-
- a young Bill Murray receives a pack of meat for Christmas during a "Ghost of Christmas past" moment.
- The "Ghost of Christmas present" kept slapping Bill Murray around Three Stooges style, lol.
- One of his employees had a picture of her childs drawing hanging by the side of her desk, and Bill Murray ripped it up right in front of her.
- When Bill Murray was full of love and feeling positive about everything, the one psycho employee of his that tried to kill Murray with a shotgun (who was chasing Murray around the room a moment earlier) got the surprise of his life- Bill Murray showering him with love and affection RIGHT after "Ghost of Christmas future" showed Bill Murray the error of his ways, lol. Trust me, this part is absolutely great.
Overall, a great movie and a positive message at the very end of the film.

I Didn't Like It In 88, and I Still Don't Like It In 09
by YJM (Somewhere In The South)
Being a Gen X'er I saw this movie in the theaters when it came out and I just recently saw it again a few days ago, thus the reason for this review. I was originally skeptical about seeing a remake on an absolute masterpiece of a movie in the original. I thought to myself "I'm sure there will be lots of gee-whiz special effects, but how is it going to capture the spirit of the original?" Well they didn't capture the spirit of the original, despite the "gee-whiz" special effects.
What I also found out years later is Bill Murray was going through a horrible cocaine addiction at the time this movie was made (using on the set apparently) and you can tell. First of all he looks terrible in this movie, almost sickly. His performance is flat as a board, he just appears to be going through the motions and I believe this is a direct result of his drug problems. The movie is filled with a star-studded cast yet none of them shine in this movie, none of them can shine with a terrible script and the film's poor directing. The ending monologue by Bill is nauseating and comes off as being sanctimonious and superficial.
There is something so pure and wonderful about the early days of cinema, before they were able to rely on special effects to mask a poor script, poor directing, and poor acting. The original Scrooge is a shining example of that pureness. It is one of my all-time favorite films and this ridiculous remake does nothing to tarnish its greatness. If for some reason you're a Gen X'er who missed this when it originally came out and are thinking of giving it a spin in your DVD player, don't. Buy the original instead and enjoy a much, much better film in every aspect, except for the special effects...

A great Scrooge film
by Richard Franks (Arcadia, Calif)
A wonderful holiday movie that does a great job with a modern twist on the old Christmas Carol theme. Bill Murray is visited by the traditional ghosts but each ghost is nicely modernized. The film is an amazingly good film for the whole family.
Scrooged Summary
A Ruthless Tv-network Chief Meets The Ghosts Of Christmases Past, Present And Yet To Come.
Most critics couldn't get behind Bill Murray's modern retelling of Charles Dickens's
A Christmas Carol
, finding it too unfocused at times and not nearly wicked enough. Still, if you're a Murray fan, you have to enjoy his deliciously nasty portrayal of the world's meanest TV executive, who has his cathartic moment one cold Christmas night in New York City. The various ghosts lead him on a ghost-town tour of Manhattan, with stops at holidays past, present, and future and a Kumbaya moment when Al Green and Annie Lennox sing "Put a Little Love in Your Heart." The effects are otherworldly, but one wishes the writing were as sharp as Murray's edgy portrayal.
