Good-not great
by H. Rogers (Phoenix,AZ USA)
I just listened to this- I recently began upgradeing some cdS to SACD hybrid- but choose this version mostly because it was about $10 less, after hearing the dark side of the moon oN sacd surrond- this was a bit disappointing- the music sounded great but the vocals are sometimes a bit submerged, I havent heard the SACD version so I cant say that its better- but I caN SAY THAT i BOUGHT DARK SIDE OF THE MOON IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT i HAD GROWN so familiar with it that I rarely listened to it- but the SACD version blew me away- as did the SACD version of blonde on blonde. I can say I still might buy this on SACD since this version leaves much to be desired-(Yes my DVD player does have DTS surround sound so it wasent bad equipment)

Sounds like quad mix dumped to 5.1...
by Mark Gatzke (Plant City, FL USA)
I have always loved this album and was looking forward to hearing it in 5.1 surround sound. Unfortunately, it sounds like a quad mix that was unceremoniously dumped to 5.1 format without any improvement in either the sound quality or to the surround mix. Seventh Sojourn is a much better example of what 5.1 should sound like. This one fails miserably.

Better Than Quad
by Robert J. Taylor
Having had a "State-Of-The-Art" Quadraphonic system back in the day I can tell you first hand that this recording brought the same sense of wonderment and awe that it did the first time I heard it in a multi-channel playback back in the early 70's. This recording is breath taking and playable on any DTS DVD playback system. It's a travesty that the SACD, DVD-Audio and DTS Encoded formats did not catch-on. These formats bring these recordings to life in a way that cannot be imagined, only experienced. Hopefully with the finalization of the Blu-Ray format these recordings will emerge once again.

Wow! what sound quality! What a great CD
by Linda J. Swenson (Baltimore, MD)
This disc lends itself to superb sound in dts. There is fine separation of instrumentation and voice. When I put it on I don't want to get out of the car...I could drive forever.

Beautiful....
by G. Vermette (Philadelphia, PA)
After hearing almost every re-issue of this album, finally the DTS version captures most of the original 1967 release. This mix, overly heavy on reverb in spots, with oddities not heard in other versions released on CD, to me, sounds as close to my original vinyl and cassette mixes from the 60's and early 70's. These masters, which had not been used for previous CD releases, have a particular charm to them, much like hearing the reverb saturated "US Mixes" of the early Beatles albums re-issued on the Capitol box sets.
What we get on this DTS release, in true 5.1 sound, is the full beauty of the orchestrations by Peter Knight, and a wide distinction can be heard (in the rear speakers) between the mellotron and orchestra on songs such as "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Nights in White Satin", especially on the final verse of the latter, which still gives me goosebumps with every listen.
If you are a fan of this album, and have the necessary equipment for proper playback,(this disc will NOT play in your car or through your iPod), get this version immediately!
Days of Future Passed [DTS DVD Audio] Summary
The Moody Blues' second album was also their first of what would be a succession of "concept" albums. Inspired by the Beatles'
Sgt. Pepper
and utilizing the London Festival Orchestra primarily for epic instrumental interludes between songs,
Days of Future Passed
moved the Birmingham band away from its early R&B roots (as displayed on its debut album with soon-departed future Wings member Denny Laine) into uncharted rock territory, making them the early pioneers of both classical and progressive rock. The concept of the 1968 release was very simple, tracing a day in the life from dawn to night, from awakening to sleep. The seven tracks spawned two hit singles--"Tuesday Afternoon" and "Nights in White Satin" (which hit No. 2 four years after the LP's original release) and a prog-rock cottage industry.
