I always had a tape to start for this album. I loved the songs somuch i picked up the cd and when i saw the audio dvd.. i immediately picked it up. This album has stepped up a few notches with DTS recording quality. Perfect to demo ur hometheater .. ENJOY!!!

4/5 Sting - BRAND NEW DAY (1999)

Sting seemed to be on a roll in the early 90s, with his masterpiece THE SOUL CAGES and the outstanding TEN SUMMONER'S TALES. Unfortunately, his winning streak ended with 1996's MERCURY FALLING, a pretentious, unextraodinary addition to Sting's musical portfolio. In 1999, however, Sting made his comeback in a big way with BRAND NEW DAY. It was the ex-Police frontman's first venture into techno music, which he would continue to explore on his subsequent release, SACRED LOVE. Along with the exotic "Desert Rose", a surprise smash hit for the 50-something musician, there's a variety of delightful songs, including the hyptonic "A Thousand Years", the irresistible "After The Rain Has Fallen", and the mega-upbeat title tune. The album has a few oddities - "Tomorrow We'll See", about a transvestite hooker, redeemed by its shady bass line, and the cringeworthy, pretentious "Fill Her Up", undoubtedly the worst song of Sting's entire career - but for the most part, it's a delightful melding of jazz, alt rock and techno. Over thirty years after a band called The Police burst on to the music scene, Sting still rocks.

5/5 DTS Sound is Fantastic

To date, I own three DTS discs - Steely Dan - Gaucho; and Sting - Brand New Day - Nothing Like the Sun.

Since there are plenty of reviews, I will get to the bottom line. All three of these DTS discs have an excellent transfer to 5.1 DTS sound. There is the obvious separation of sound/music and back up vocals through the surround speakers and nice bass.

The only drawback is the listener has to be in the central position ("Sweet Spot") to fully enjoy the 5.1 sound. So, if you have the time to relax and enjoy the music, definitely buy all three.



5/5 Makes the old version sound ancient by today's standards.

This DTS edition of Sting's masterpiece "Brand New Day" sound almost like it needs as much re-mastering as a poorly recorded pre-1980 album does. The sound quality is unbelievable and so much clearer than ever before. The best songs are "A Thousand Years" "Desert Rose" "Fill Her Up" and the title track, which by the way is likely my favorite song ever by him. With all of the sound improvements, if you have the right player, you will not believe the incredible sound improvement that this album is treated with! I guarantee it!

From the opening note of A Thousand Years, coming exclusively through the .1 channel, you will be submerged in a dream like state.
At my house there is a Pioneer 100W x 5 DTS compatible amplifier with a 5.1 JVC speaker system. I always look for DTS tracks on DVD's as they are generally more discrete than Dolby. Check the intro to Se7en on the Dolby track then the DTS. Incredible difference.
This Sting CD is by far the most surreal sound I have ever heard. It's literally audio bliss. When the chorus comes in I shiver. i also have the Police greatest hits and Ten Summoner's Tales on DTS Entertainment's label. They are all thrilling but this is definitely the most wonderful 5.1 mix ever.
