3/5 Could have been a great anime but. . .

Phantom Quest Corp is about a small and often in the red financially business for eliminating ghosts, demons, vampires, etc. Headed by the tough Ayaka Kisaragi who uses a laser type sword to vanquish some unsavory paranormal characters. Interestingly the sword is contained in a lipstick tube. Adding her is a police Lieutenant Kozo Karino who according to his supervisor is frequently absent.

Ayaka's office assistant, bookkeeper, and caretaker (when she is arrested for beating an innocent cab driver) is Mamoro Shemisu. I am not 100 percent sure of the characters gender but assume Mamoro to be a young girl. Also helping Ayaka are, a fortune teller who is smart enough to ask for payment upfront (especially from Ayaka-being financially in the red and all). A buddhist priest whose skill is putting restless spirits to rest. And a young girl who has tremendous psychic powers but can't control them.

There are only 4 episodes to this series-thankfully. I didn't dislike it nor did I like. It's so-so.
A much better series similar in someways to this is "Ah My Buddha". The first 4 dvds are available and the final 2 will be out soon. Another good title of this type are "xxxHolic".

Phantom Quest Corp is a poorly publicized title, but a lot of fun. Plenty of laughs, interesting characters, a little fanservice for the otaku set, & a general delight.

As for the lead character, she's a little like what Sailor Moon might be, all grown up, if she was a binge shopper & drank too much.

This show is definitaly one of the funniest anime series made in a while, yet one of the least known. It was only four episodes, yet each one had it's quarks to them, from an anemic vampire, to a group of greedy monks working to shut out the Corporation. The only thing to dislike is that it was only four 30 minutes episodes long. One can only hope that perhaps with the flood of TV series remake of older OAV series, the Phantom Quest Corporation could get some more of their oldball cases.

Rating 13 and up: nudity, violence, sexual situations, and occasional profanity.

Phantom Quest Corp. an action/comedy film about the drunken, karoake singing,party girl Ayaka and her friends taking on paranormal enemies, from Dracula to a possessed surgeon, mummies, and even magical monks. This Movie is a comedic romp through the world of supernatural events.

The only set backs on this flick can be that the theme songs can get a little annoying after hearing them too many times, the series is too short although it was still good. The video quality was also pretty nice, and subtitles were understandable and on que. The plot is sort of like scooby doo without the guys in masks, but more action and laughs.

All in all this film is a great buy and worth the money spent. A great addition to any anime collection.

Sure, I could have compared Phantom Quest Corp. to a lot of other animes out there, but the basic premise is the same -- we get a group of people who are working together to solve sci-fi mysteries...and there is definitely nothing wrong with that.
A friend of mine introduced me to this series, and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised overall.
If you love having vampires and mummies, among other things, show up in your anime, along with a HUGE dosage of humor to boot, then you will absolutely LOVE this show -- it manages to take dark subject matter and make it into something comical.
I think the biggest weakness in this series is definitely a coherent side story -- it seems like things are a little too hashed together at times, and a little too rushed. On top of that, half of the Phantom Quest team only shows up when actually needed to do something, such as the team exorcist and the fortune teller -- neither of these two characters really gets a strong introduction at all.
One more weakness would really be in the music as well, which I found continuously grating on my nerves -- mainly, the theme song. Most of the other music is just merely OK.

Complaints aside, this is definitely worth your time, especially for such a small price -- buy this one, you certainly won't regret it!
