The Original = Really Great Movie!!
by Silly Nilly (In Front Of My Computer)
This movie is excellent and wickedly funny. A very well done comedy, it is funny on several different levels as well. I recommend it to anyone. The newer remake is horrible compared to this one, different movie all together.

"Serpentine Shel"
by Joanna Marcia (Fargo, ND)
I love this movie and bought it for my dad for Christmas. For anyone who has only seen the new version, you HAVE to see the original. This is the funniest movie I own - Alan Arkin makes me almost pee my pants. Great buy!

IN-LAWS....GREAT MOVIE
by Harrison Draper III
TO ANYONE WHO APPRECIATES GREAT HUMOR, THIS IS THE FILM FOR YOU.
A BIT ON THE *SLAP-STICK* SIDE AT TIMES , BUT VERY WELL DONE.
IN MY FAMILY, IT IS A LEGEND. WE QUOTE LINES FROM THIS FILM (*SERPENTINE !! SERPENTINE !!*....*SENIOR PEPE WANT A KISS ?*)LIKE WE DO FROM *CADDYSHACK*.
THAT GOOD !!
WELL WORTH THE PRICE.

Laugh Out Loud Funny
by Gunslinger (St. Louis, MO United States)
I can not say enough about this movie. Alan Arkin is the consumate straight man to Peter Falk's dry and serious delivery. They are perfectly matched for this film. It is pure comedic genius. It definitely did not need a remake because this film stands the test of time. I highly recommend it...

Comedy at its Best
by M. Luttrell (Pennsylvania)
Peter Falk and Alan Arkin are at their comedic best in this film about a CIA operative who involves his son's future father-in-law in a mission to a tropical Latin American Island Country whose dictator makes Idi Amin look like a Rhodes Scholar. This is a movie that I have watched many times over the years and will continue to do so. There are no food fights, sex grundge, profanity or nudity so I don't imagine it will appeal to the brain dead. The story line is ageless as are the actors and the humor is there for the laughing.
The In-Laws Summary
With his daughter about to marry, Manhattan dentist Sheldon Kornpett is getting in over his head. The groom's father Vince Ricardo (who may/may not be CIA) has been in over his head so long he may have lost it totally. As played by Alan Arkin and Peter Falk, they're as different as night and day - and one of the funniest screen teams ever as The In-Laws. (The 2003 remake The Wedding Party stars Mi

As Played By Alan Arkin And Peter Falk They're As Different As Night And Day - And One Of The Funniest Screen Teams Ever As The In-laws. (the 2003 Remake The Wedding Party Stars Michael Douglas And Albert Brooks.) Throw In A Uniquely Zany Script By Andrew Bergman (blazing Saddles Fletch) And Snappy Direction By Arthur Hiller (the Americanization Of Emily The Hospital) And You Have A Wild And Woolly Comedy That Doesn't Stop At Hilarious. The In-laws Is A Scream.running Time: 103 Min.format: Dvd Movie Genre: comedy Upc: 085392387823
This 1979 comedy is absolutely indispensable for fans of Peter Falk, Alan Arkin, or Andrew Bergman, who wrote the film's screenplay and went on to direct
The Freshman
and
Honeymoon in Vegas
. (Let's forgive him for
Striptease
.) Arkin is extraordinarily funny as a dentist who quickly grows skeptical about the wild claims of his daughter's future father-in-law (Peter Falk) that he is a CIA agent. When he is drawn into a bizarre adventure in a banana republic, however, he takes a different view. Arthur Hiller (
Love Story
) provides serviceable direction, but the real draw here is the perfect chemistry between the two leads and Bergman's weirdly comic mind. Watch for the look on Arkin's face when Falk's character tells a story about giant tse-tse flies.
