home alone review
by aloha from hawaii (Hawaiian Paradise)
One of my favorite movies, my son (age 5) also enjoys this movie along with Home Alone 2 Lost in New York, he thinks it's hilarious when Kevin fights back the thieves with his painfully funny traps.

Christmas Fun for all the Family
by The Northern Light (Europa, Close to Ultima Thule)
I remember I loved this film back when it came out, and I was still relatively young. I don't think I've seen it since, and I must admit to being a bit sceptical when I popped it into the player. Still is good as gold, it turned out! Not sure how much "reviewing" is needed here; has anyone not seen this film? It is one of the biggest hits ever, and more importantly; it was made while the US was still a European nation, which the movie really shows. It is so old there's even a Jewish bad guy, not a blond European one! My oh my!
Even though his family is portrayed as somewhat dysfunctional and strange, it still is a wonderful loving film about the family and what is important in life. Little Kevin has a bit of a fight with his mom over him reacting to his supposed "black sheep" status in the extended family. He says he wishes his family was gone; which *surprise surprise* happens the next morning, when the family leave for France and incidentally forgets to bring little eight-year-old Kevin with them in the chaos (they overslept). It is Christmas, and there's been a lot of burglaries in the neighbourhood, and it turns out thieves are indeed on the prowl. Kevin arms up, though, and places traps throughout the entire house, using his imagination to great effect. All for good comical effect and on the side of it all is the story about a lonely proud old man which Kevin eventually befriends and gives some life-changing advice. Not often something brings tears to my eyes, but there are some wonderful scenes in this film, centring on family and religion; the most important issues in life.
5 stars and a film for all the family that is still as good as it was when it came out.

still a fun movie to watch after all these years
by Jason A. Hahn
i cannot believe it has been almost 19 years since this movie came out. i remember when it first came out and seeing it in theaters. hard to believe i was only 5 years old at the time. still enjoy watching it after all these years. it is a wonderful heartwarming family comedy. i am so happy to have it in my collection and everybody else should have it in there's too.

Not Blu-Ray Quality
by Steinberger Man (Melbourne, FL USA)
I purchased this movie in Blu-Ray format expecting a crystal clear picture but I was shocked to discover that the picture quality is nearly the same as a standard definition DVD. The studio managers should be ashamed of themselves for releasing this rip-off. Buyer beware; this movie is not Blu-Ray quality!

Great Christmas movie!!
by M. J Krankka (New London,MO)
Just watched The Blu-Ray edition of Home Alone. And thought it was wonderful. At first I was not going to get Home Alone on Blu-Ray as I already had it on DVD.But when I scene that Amazon was selling it for $14.99 I caved and order it. Thought the 1080p picture was pretty good.I thought The DTS-HD audio was great. John Williams soundtrack sounded awsome in Lossless.Plus the Christmas music thats heard in the movie sounded great too. Realy cool Blu-Ray. And now I see Home Alone 2 will be making it to Blu-Ray this fall along with Miracle on 34th Street orginal version, and the remake. And the 1951 version of A Christmas Carol is making the leap to Blu-Ray this fall too. And I think Paramount is planing on bringing Its A Wonderfull Life to Blu-Ray this Christmas as well?Nice! I love Christmas movies!
Home Alone Summary
Movie Dvd
Now and forever a favorite among kids, this 1990 comedy written by John Hughes (
The Breakfast Club
) and directed by Chris Columbus (
Mrs. Doubtfire
) ushered Macaulay Culkin onto the screen as a troubled 8-year-old who doesn't comfortably mesh with his large family. He's forced to grow a little after being accidentally left behind when his folks and siblings fly off to Paris. A good-looking boy, Culkin lights up the screen during several funny sequences, the most famous of which finds him screaming for joy when he realizes he's unsupervised in his own house. A bit wooden with dialogue, the then-little star's voice could grate on the nerves (especially in long, wise-child passages of pure bromide), but he unquestionably carries the film. Billie Bird and John Candy show up as two of the interesting strangers Culkin's character meets. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern are entertainingly cartoonish as thieves, but the ensuing violence once the little hero decides to keep them out of his house is over-the-top.
