My personal fave!
by ADRIENNE MILLER (TENNESSEE)
Rocky IV starring Sylvester Stallone is my personal fave of the Rocky franchise. Rocky IV is outrageous, campy, and memorable. This is the Rocky where he fights that Russian guy, something tragic happens in the first hour and Rocky wants revenge. The perfect '80s film, I highly recommend it!

Sublime.
by David Teitelbaum (ManTown)
There is only one question that needs to be asked: Is this a great movie, or the greatest movie?
This movie includes not 1, but 2 of the greatest montages of all time. The first, with "No easy way out" blaring in the background is the ultimate patriotic test. Does that montage give you goosebumps? No? Get the hell out of my country.
The second is the perfect juxtaposition between rustic and technological means of training. You think coffee wakes you up? Try waking up to a big slice of this montage punching you in your face.
The cold war was truly a chilling time in the history of our great country, and Rocky does not downplay the significance of this event. "If I can change, and you can change, EVERYBODY CAN CHANGE!" Boom, cold war over.
You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll sing the national anthem while donning an american flag cape/vest/helmet, and you will experience what america is all about: Montages.

Light On Credibility, But A Ton Of Entertainment
by Craig Connell (Lockport, NY USA)
Here's another low-brained but very entertaining "Rocky" movie with one more interesting villain. Instead Of "Apollo Creed" or "Mr. T.," we now have "Ivan Drago," (Dolph Lundgren) a giant Russian who is more like a machine.
He's "indestructable" - and on steroids, too, and unlike some baseball sluggers, he admits it!! He has the latest in technology, nutrition, etc., but you just know the much-smaller disadvantaged hero "Rocky Balboa" (Sylvester Stallone) will somehow find a way to chop this "Goliath" down.
Minute-for-minute, this might be the most entertaining of all the Rocky films, and looks good on DVD despite some graininess in the first five minutes. Rocky's wife "Adrian" (Talia Shire) never looked better: mature and pretty; the gruff and profane manager played Burgess Meredith is gone and the repellent obnoxious slob "Paulie" (Burt Young) has only a few lines.
This is the ultimate "David vs. Goliath" tale in every aspect and the final bout - held in Russia - breaks the all-time Rocky record for most punches ever thrown by two fighters. This is a real flag-waving film with Rocky draping the Stars and Stripes around his shoulders.
The film is only an hour-and-a-half and story literally flies by.
2/5
ROCKY FORMULA STILL WORKS, BUT SPOILED BY TOO MANY CARDBOARD CHARACTERS! 2 1/2 STARS!
by ! MR. KNOW IT ALL ;-b (TRI STATE AREA)
I own the older box set with the first 5 Rocky films included in it. I wanted to write reviews for the individual films. This review is for the film and the older release DVD.
OK, none of the Rocky films are un-watchable, but this forth installment is a little thin. Once the film gets rolling and Rocky steps into the ring it's exciting and fun!
the DVD transfer is OK on my edition, but there is room for improvement.
Rocky IV Summary
East meets West when Rocky takes on a vicious Soviet fighter who literally killed his last opponent! Sylvester Stallone writes, directs and stars in this war between nations in which the only battle is fought in a boxing ring. Rocky Balboa (Stallone) proudly holds the world heavyweight boxing championship, but a new challenger has stepped forward: Drago (Dolph Lundgren), a six-foot-four-inch, 261

It was time for Sylvester Stallone to say "enough, already" to the boxing hero he plays in the popular Rocky film series, but instead Stallone kept the saga going by pushing Rocky into Rambo territory. The 1985
Rocky IV
finds the Italian stallion pitted against a seemingly unbeatable Russian monster named Drago (Dolph Lundgren) who lets his wife (Stallone's then-wife, Brigitte Nielsen) do all the talking. With a mighty punch, Drago has sent Rocky's former opponent and trainer Apollo Creed to an early grave, and the boxer responds with the ultimate challenge. Even the Russians are rooting for Rocky, so it's not hard to guess how the film ends. Despite Stallone's claims to the contrary, this installment was followed by
Rocky V
in 1990.
