I was very happy with my purchase. The DVDs arrived in perfect condition and quicker then expected. This DVD set was one of the first things I've ever bought on Amazon.com and it went so well that I've bought a couple more DVDs and many books from the site and been pleased with them all! I would highly recommend the site.

5/5 When The Simpsons Were Still At Their Peak

Seeing this season brings back the fondness and humor that I first had with the Simpsons and try not to lament the last seven years or so now that the Simpsons humor has seemed to become to stale and recycled these past few years. I'm sure if anyone remembers the year when it first showed is the episode of when Mr.Burns is shot after another of his devious ideas has seemed to push the people of Springfield past their limit. As you watch the episodes it just seems so much better as these were the early years of the show and the humor and ingenuity to make the episodes was still fresh and innovative to please the fans of the show. I'm not saying that Family Guy is any better or worse than this show and you do get tired of all the hardcore fans blasting each other over these stupid and inane reasons, I'm sure that like many others out there that you can like and enjoy both shows without having to throw stones at the other. The box set is pretty good much better than the eleventh season box set and some of the extras you'll get are pretty decent as well, and the video and audio are nicely done as well watching these episodes and hearing them and clear detail so kudos for the good work. So at the end is this season worth getting even if some of us are starting to get a little tired of the show after all these years?, for these early years of the Simpsons I say yes as these were the best years of a still somewhat entertaining show...

3/5 Bad Packaging, No Alternative, Great Season

Just arrived yesterday. I opened it expecting to find a coupon telling me how I can get the box case instead of the annoying and useless novelty case. No coupon so I looked around the web and found an image of it. It had a number to call, I called and the number has been disconnected. A little more searching and I found out that the number referred you to a website. I went there and there was nothing about getting a replacement box. Apparently, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has decided, despite numerous complaints, to only package this great season in a flimsy, cheap, plastic, ugly head (no offense, Homer).

Other than that, this season has some classic episodes, including Itchy and Scratchy Land which could be a candidate for one of the best episodes from any season.

I ordered this season along with seasons seven and eight, and while I had to reorder season eight because it contained two copies of the same disk, the other two were as they should be. So, incidentally, was the new copy of season eight once I reordered it. But I'll discuss the rest of those seasons in separate reviews since I actually came here to discuss the sixth season. This season is so far the only one I've received in the head-shaped packaging. After reading all the negative reviews where sometimes four stars were subtracted based on the package alone, I'll grant that I was nervous about buying them. But I was pleasantly surprised when I received it. The package was easy to open and yet closed securely and didn't fall apart. Nor did the disks, which are in a handy plastic holder with sections for each disk rather like pages in a photo album, fall out. And because I generally stack my DVD's on my entertainment center, the fact that the package doesn't stand welll on its side didn't matter.
So now that the packaging is out of the way let's get on to the season itself. Season six features some of my favorite episodes, not the least being Treehouse of Horror V, which features three of my favorite sketches. The Shinning, wherein homer goes crazy from lack of TV and beer and attempts to murder his family with an axe, Time and Punishment, which parodies the butterfly effect and the Ray Bradbury shortstory A Sound of Thunder, and Nightmare Cafeteria, wherein Bart and Lisa make a horrifying discovery at school. There's also Homer the Great, where Homer inadvertently becomes the leader of a secet society of beer-swilling good timers while being kicked out of said society for despoiling the sacred parchment. This episode features the ever so catchy Stonecutters theme song, which is one of my favorite Simpsons songs after Baby on Board. Other notables are Bart of Darkness, Lisa's Rival, and of course we can't forget the cliffhanger beginning to one of the most talked-about Simpsons episodes, part one of Who Shot Mr. Burns? If I'm not mistaken this aired not long before the famous King of the Hill cliffhanger when America spent all that spring and summer wondering who would survive the big Propane explosion at the end of season 2.
Aside from the episodes themselves, there is still of course the insightful and often hillarious audio commentary on each episode. And yes folks, these are probably the only features that are likely to matter to a blind Simpsons fan like myself. There are of course also deleted scenes and things like that, making this a set any Simpsons fan should have.
