5/5 Analyzing Friends

As a whole series Friends is 5-star entertainment all the way, although if I had one bone to pick it'd be the whole Ross/Rachel thing which is more or less a frustrating element in the show from the 6th season on. Granted, a 'real' Ross/Rachel marriage in the 6th season would have severly limited the story line possibilities of these swinging singles in NY so perhaps I can understand the writers decision to have it this way, though it continued to grate on me even the second time I saw these. Rachel basically broke up Ross's marriage to Emily in the 5th season (probably my favorite season) and by the end of that season they were married (albeit drunk in Las Vegas). Rachel (who's drunken idea it was to get married in the first place - this after she breaks up his marriage to Emily) wants an unwilling Ross to annul the marriage. And thus the frustration begins. It doesn't end there however. The audaciousness continues when the writers decide to develop the whole Joey/Rachel romance. The seasons (season 10 included) continue to be funny and entertaining in spite of this development, but I must say that while it creates intrigue (through scandal) for the audience, it somewhat mars that audiences love for Rachel and even Joey as they fall into this state of affairs. Joey, who chastised Chandler for getting involved with one of his girlfriends of like 3 weeks or something! In terms of generating interest for the show, it works, though watching these a second time I am still struck by what an unappealing light the storyline puts both Rachel and then Joey in, as the story continues. How can the audience forget the first time Rachel and Ross kissed in the coffee house (way back in season 2) or Ross's unfailing love for her thoughout his life basically. And then to have Joey and Rachel live together with a complacent Ross standing by? Ross whose child Rachel has had? And Joey, one of Ross's best friends? It's disgusting! Well, of course that's TV land, and it worked for soap operas, so might as well work for Friends. This is a great show, but I can't help but lament lost love, traitorous lovers and best friends as I enjoy the laughs! Poor Ross, I would think. But then again, Ross would let it go when he should have held on, and would hold on when he should have let go. The stupidity of Ross? Or the downright cunning of those &$@#$%@ writers.

2/5 Not the best season I have to say.

Let's be honest. Season 7 featured some amazing episodes. From there on, I feel as though the actors were making the episodes 'for the money'. Yes. Or at least, the writers were paid to 'kill' off Friends. The lines and the plots were not funny anymore. Or maybe both the characters and the actors grew up, and they certainly didn't fit quite the same as they did at the beginning or in season 4 and 5 per say. When i say 'funny' I mean 'Smelly cat' funny, 'Chandler messing around with Joey's sisters' funny, 'Monica going out with Richard and Chandler going out with Janice' funny. Those were the days. Or maybe Rachel and Ross having Emma gave the show a more 'mature' twist to the whole series, and that's why season 8, 9 and 10 looked more like a soap opera.

Phoebe and her constant nonsense gave the show a surplus, Chandler and Joey's camaraderie gave the show another further surplus. Chandler and Monica's wedding brought the show to a whole new level of seriousness and matureness. Then Rachel and Ross having a baby together gave the show a further knockout.

When Phoebe's apartment was painted in a bright yellow color it was so obvious they wanted to bring some 'fun' Phoebe to balance the show from 'all seriousness' to a more relaxed ambience. But it was too late. The show showed all over the screen it had grown up alongside the characters. To me, Phoebe's apartment looked more 'Phoebe' when it was gray-colored because it was Phoebe who brought it -not a yellow wall.

It's true. Joey was never developed like the rest of the characters were. They kept Joey alone with no stable relationship because it was a 'secure ticket' whenever the show turned way too serious. They turned to Joey to balance the show. It shows the lack of creativity of both the writers and the producers to turn Joey into a mature character and have it both ways. They gave Joey Janine but they took her away from him because it was evident Joey was turning into what he was supposed to: a grownup. It was so sad Joey was the puppet of the show.

I don't know what season 11 would've looked like, so I think it was for the best the show ended in season 10. Even though i graded this season with a two-star rating. I give the show a 4.5 star rating out of 5 stars. I've laughed a lot. Thank you guys.

5/5 Friends - The Complete Tenth Season

We've seen the complete season rigt after they finished it but we still purchased them to complete our collection and so that we can watch them over and over again. every time we watch this season especially the final episode, we feel sad... we miss friends, we hope that the producers, directors and all person incharge back of house will think of having a reunion of friends........ maybe a movie:))))

Wonderful finale to the season's episodes. Even though there has been no continuation, the writing team left the characters in perfect relationship endings. If you never heard of Friends, or have and just didn't bother to watch - I highly recommend you purchasing the set and taking the time. You will find that Friends dealt with a lot of issues that have now really come to the forefront of our society. The writer's tactful scripts and near-perfect blending of the relationships between the 6 friends will teach you some valuable information about togetherness, boundaries and love of life.
