Oh dear, this is way compelling...
by J. Kroeckel (New Franklin MO)
The only version of the Dark Shadows series that I absolutely love. To me Ben Cross is the only Barnabas who I like. I was so happy to find this. I watched it all the minute I opened it. What a treat.

I wish this lasted at least 4 more years!
by T. Thomas (TX)
This series was the bomb! I was one of those 6 year olds who ran home every day to see the original series and then sleep with the lights on because Angelique scared the hell out of me--NOT Barnabas and NOT Quentin...I felt sorry for them...I watched this series on hulu THIS year and never knew it existed...Ben Cross brought a reality and a soul to Barnabas that was appropriate for the present time. I don't care how Tim Burton directs the new movie being made or how Johnny Depp is cast as Barnabas because no other actor will EVER match what Ben Cross did for this character. IF the fans cannot empathize with Barnabas, the movie won't make it. That is something both Burton and Depp need to keep in mind...Depp will never equal what Ben Cross did and shouldn't even try for the simple fact that he will not hold a candle to that work! Depp needs to find his "own" Barnabas. To many, Cross IS Barnabas even though the show had only 12 episodes. I'd like to see some bloopers and outtakes if they exist!
This cast was great...Each actor gave their characterizations depth and a dose of reality that an audience could actually empathize with. I will say this though, once someone does see this, I can certainly see why they would take interest in the work Ben Cross has done since then. I go so far to say that for him, cancellation was a blessing in disguise! Look where he is now!

Great version of dark shadows
by N. Campbell (Ann Arbor, Michigan)
This is a great version of dark shadows....I just wish they had made more of it.

I loved Dark Shadows!
by D. Morgan (USA)
There are no words to describe the happiness I felt, when I found this DVD on Amazon.
Anyone who has watched this series, knows how abruptly it ended and how annoyed viewers were, that there would be no more. Thanks to this DVD, I can watch my favorite parts, over and over again, and just avoid the last five minutes.
For those of you who don't know, this series aired in the late `90's and was centered around a vampire who is "accidentally" brought back to life, and ends up having almost the same experience, again. He meets his original love who has reincarnated into the present century, and also comes face to face, once again, with the evil, jealous woman who caused all the issues in the first place.
It's definitely worth watching, even though it does end too suddenly. I think it was the best remake of Dark Shadows that I've ever seen.

Addictive
by Book Worm (Merrillville, IN)
As a kid, I used to run home from school so I could watch the original daytime soap opera. Thus began my obsession with vampires. I missed the remake when it aired, so when I discovered this series, I had to see it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this remake. It took an episode or two to get used to the over the top story and acting, (not as over the top as the original, though) but soon I found myself addicted to the show. It's been so long since I watched the original show, that if there were any changes to the storyline and characters, I could not remember. If you enjoy vampire stories, give this one a try. It's a fun romp that will leave you wishing it had not been cancelled so soon.
