Absolutely lovely!
by STACY B. (WALNUT CREEK, CA United States)
The soundtrack to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has been my favorite of them all (so far). I don't know what took me so long to get this CD. I see the scenes in my head when I listen, of course I've seen the movie probably 50 times, but it's very vivid. Neville's Waltz, Harry in Winter, Death of Cedric and when I watch the movie and Another Year Ends is playing, I get very emotional. Music is very powerful and can make a strong connection to a movie. I will cherish all my HP movies forever and the music has so much to do with that. This composer nailed it, he has as much to do with the success of this film and anyone else involved. He has brought you in the moment.

WOW...It was better than expected.
by Erik Anderson (Chicago, IL)
I was shocked to find out the John Williams was not involved with the soundtrack and had my reservations about another artist taking there own take on the music but I was completely floored on how good this was.
Patrick Doyle exceeded my expectations with this soundtrack creating themes that would stick in you head and working with what JW had started with the first three films. Listening to the soundtrack I could imagine what was happening at the time when the music was playing and could visualize the action in my head with the music.
I give props to this composer because he really brought the right stuff to the show for this film.

Disappointingly pedestrian
by Eastonboy (Lehigh Valley PA)
Let me start by saying I sympathize with Patrick Doyle. Yes, a Harry Potter composer is a great gig but you have to follow three soundtracks by John Williams. Doyle has a quite respectable pedigree of smallish British films to his credit, BUT this ain't "Sense and Sensibility". You have to bring it up a notch. Unfortunately, like the film itself, the soundtrack feels to episodic; as though there are pieces missing.
Goblet starts off promising: "The Story Continues" is an excitingly dramatic opener that deftly weaves in "Hedwig's Theme" and hints at Elfman-esque grandeur. Similarly, "The Quidditch World Cup" and "Foreign Visitors Arrive" are solid tunes but from there the album devolves into atmospheric music in search of a film to accompany. Several of the songs ARE pretty in a pensive way, but its just too little.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Summary
Big News On The Harry Potter Musical Front: After Scoring The First Three Installments In The Series, John Williams Has Been Replaced By Patrick Doyle. Still, Williams Never Feels Far Away. His Main Theme Pops Up Here And There, And A Track Like "voldemort," Which Eloquently Illustrates The Soul Of A Blacker-than-black Wizard With Thunderous Cymbal Crashes, Shrieking Horns, Tumultuous Strings, And A Stately Finish, Firmly Belongs In The Williams Mode. Overall, Doyle Acquits Himself Well. He Can Do Light When Needed ("the Quidditch World Cup," Which Starts Out Like Some Kind Of Jig), But Mostly He's Required To Be Ominous ("the Quidditch World Cup," Which Ends In Martial War Chants). Among The Highlights Are The Aforementioned "voldemort," But Also The Frantic, Overpowering "the Dark Mark." Note That The Cd Concludes On A Jarringly Different Note With Three Songs By The Weird Sisters, The Group That Performs At Hogwarts' Yule Ball. Led By Pulp Frontman Jarvis Cocker, The Ad Hoc Band Also Includes Members Of Radiohead And Cocker's Side Project Relaxed Muscle. "do The Hippogriff" Is A Fast-paced Rocker That Somehow Comes Across Like A Grungy Hybrid Of Billy Idol's "white Wedding" And "dancing With Myself." The Other Two Songs--"this Is The Night" And "magic Works"--are Less Obvious, And Much Better. Still, The Contrast Between These Tracks And The Instrumental Score That Precedes Them May Not Be To Everybody's Taste.
--elisabeth Vincentelli
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth film (and soundtrack album) in the massively successful Harry Potter franchise-nearly $1 billion in U.S. box office alone-features a score by Academy Award-nominated composer Patrick Doyle and three songs written by modern rocker Jarvis Cocker, and performed by Cocker, Jonny Greenwood, Phil Selway, Steve Claydon and Jason Buckle-with all these musicians also appearing in the movie.
