A refreshing firm about love and determination.
by Ordinary Consumer (Rhode Island)
Because the "Saintly" Ralph antics made me look back on my own Catholic upbringing, I appreciated the film more because of it. I don't quite remember having the guts to hand it out to the priests like Ralph, but there were certainly times I resented priestly authority enough to wish I had. Ralph tells it like it is, and won't let anyone, including the controlling "head master" of his Catholic school, break him down. His will power and determination formulate the essence of this film. His questions and refusal to "conform" are inspirational. The strong love he feels for his mother is transparent. I laughed and I cried, and knew when my borrowed movie was returned that I would have to order my own copy from Amazon. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful movie...don't miss it.

Heartwarming
by Robert J. Dennis
A heartwarming movie of the coming of age for a 14 year old, who is commited to a belief in a miracle to save his mother. Growing up and accepting responsibility comes quickly when his mother becomes ill, and in his determination to succeed, his young life is transformed, and in turn changes the lives of those who believe he will not succeed. He obtains the help of a nurse and a priest who believe in him, when others don't. His running the race for the gold moves him on to even greater challenges by the end of the movie.

Coming of age!!!
by Donald K. Poppell (Cofield, NC USA)
This was a great coming of age movie with all the things a 13-14 year old may go thru. It let his character bloom from being a kid to showing his ablity to handle problems like an adult. The young man that played Ralph could not have been a better choice I will be looking for more of his movies.

Saint Ralph
by P. Steiblin (Massachusetts)
This is a funny movie. It took me back to my days of attending a catholic school. The story is well written and humerous. It isn't appropriate for young children, due to some profanity and sexual references. The boy is going through puberty and puberty related topics are included. My teenager sons have watched it and enjoyed it, but my seven year old is too young to be exposed to this. I highly recommend this movie to people looking for something youthful and funny to watch.

This is the best movie made up to this date. It will make you laugh, cry, and jump up & down.
Saint Ralph Summary
The Unlikely Story Of Ralph Walker A Ninth Grader Who Outran Everyone Expectations Except His Own In His Bold Quest For Trying To Win The 1954 Boston Marathon. Studio: Sony Pictures Home Ent Release Date: 04/24/2007 Starring: Campbell Scott Jennifer Tilly Run Time: 98 Minutes Rating: Pg13 Director: Michael Mcgowan
A sweet and silly story that becomes increasingly poignant as the minutes tick by,
Saint Ralph
is the fictional tale of a wayward 9th grader, Ralph (Adam Butcher), who is secretly living on his own while his widowed, hospitalized mother remains immersed in a coma. Frequently in trouble with Father Fitzpatrick (Gordon Pinsent), the principal of his all-boys, Catholic school, Ralph is considered something of a joke among peers until he decides to pull off the miracle that could save his mother, i.e., winning the Boston Marathon. Coached by a younger priest and former runner, Father Hibbert (Campbell Scott), whose cynicism has been lifted by the boy's pure hope, Ralph applies himself to his unlikely mission, fending off naysayers and getting help along a very challenging path from sundry allies and friends. A touching movie featuring a startlingly knowing performance from the young lead. Jennifer Tilly and Tamara Hope co-star, and the film was written and directed by Michael McGowan (
My Dog Vincent
).
