A fair sequel
Somewhat generic sequel to The Mask of Zorro which manages to incorporate some rousing action sequences, though the presence of Anthony Hopkins is sorely missed in this outing and the villains are disappointing. Antonio Banderas and Cathe...

Banderas IS Zorro!!!!!!!
by L. R. Kooiman (Inglis, FL)
Lights, camera, ACTION!!! As much as I enjoyed his intro as Zorro, in The Mask of Zorro, I was thrilled with this sequel. I've loved many a Zorro in my time, but Banderas puts just enough "human frailty" into the character to make him my all-time favorite! Catherine Zeta-Jones is beautiful as ever, and it's great to see her character come alive with some 'female fire'. My only critique that could be considered the least bit negative is that the use of the terms "Mom" and "Dad" was totally out of the time period. But then, even Tornado, the horse, was given a few "lines"..... I just had a great time watching this movie...... again and again!

Huh?
by Dorothy E. Garnett (California)
Kind of confusing, but being a Zorro fan, I enjoyed the action. Antonio Banderas makes a very dashing Zorro. I wish they had used one of the alternate beginnings/endings for the film, but all in all I liked it.

definitely worth watching
by xCitrine (USA)
I've watched this movie 6 times in the past week and I don't really tire of the movie at all. I'd have liked to have seen a bit more action and less exaggerated vocals from Zeta-Jones during a sword fight. (eh, her character annoyed me at times...)Overall it was an amazing film and I highly recommend it. It's been awhile since I've seen The Mask but I seem to have enjoyed this one more. Both were very, very good and well made! The special featurettes in the special edition DVDs are fun to watch as well~
I'd buy this movie if I were you (:

WOW. What a disappointment
by D. Reid Smith (East TN)
If you liked the first one (The Mask of Zorro, and I did), you will most likely NOT like this one. It is made for 6-olds. Anyone older will be groaning and holding his head throughout. I will not repeat all the one-star reviews, since they covered it, and I agree with them.

The Zorro brand of hot-blooded derring-do returns with
The Legend of Zorro
, starring Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones in the roles that brought them stardom with
The Mask of Zorro
. Now married for ten years and parents to young rascal Joaquim (charming Adrian Alonso, perhaps being set up for a future
Son of Zorro
), dashing swordsman Alejandro (Banderas, a Spaniard playing a Mexican) and sultry spitfire Elena De La Vega (Zeta-Jones, a Welshwoman playing a Spaniard) abruptly divorce, sending Alejandro on a drunken binge--which only gets worse when he learns Elena is being wooed by the mysterious Armand (Rufus Sewell, a Brit playing a Frenchman). Little does Alejandro know that Elena has ulterior motives, and that a worldwide conspiracy and a secret weapon will soon threaten the integrity of the U.S.
The Legend of Zorro
has way too much plot, leaving room for only two genuinely preposterous donnybrooks and a handful of lackluster brawls. Banderas and Zeta-Jones flash a bit of their considerable charisma, but by and large they (and the movie as a whole) are on autopilot. Not awful, but lacking any real spark.
