I think Phil Harris sang Smoke That Cigarette on the tv show
by okay comics (Connecticut)
Having just watched the first season set, I don't think Sammy Davis Jr's version of "Smoke That Cigarette" was on the TV show itself. It sure sounded like an even older version, which was done by Phil Harris (of Jungle Book and Jack Benny's radio show) It's a minor thing, but it's a shame when they have to make substitutions on a "soundtrack" isn't it? Jer Phil Harris - His Original & Greatest Hits

Like a really great mix tape
by Gail Martin (Houston, TX United States)
This mix of old songs and re-recordings is darn entertaining, whether you're hanging around at home or on a road trip. The tie-in to the show almost doesn't matter -- it's just a really good, fun, stupid CD. Highly recommended.
My Name Is Earl - The Album Summary
Nbc's Hit Comedy Series About A Likeable Degenerate Who Wins $100,000 In The Lottery, Gets Hit By A Car, Loses His Winning Ticket, And Tries To Reverse His Karma By Making Amends To Everyone He's Ever Hoodwinked Succeeds In Duplicating The Goofy, Feel-good Mood Of The Show. Mixing Dialogue Snippets With Proven Rock And Country Hits Employed In First-season Episodes, The Repertoire Also Includes An Instrumentally Annoying, If Rhythmically Hypnotic, Vocal Version Of The Show's Theme Song By The Tongue-twisting Nescobar-a-lop-lop And The Camden Country Band. Matthew Sweet, Uncle Kracker, And Headbangers Van Nuys Show Up With New Recordings Of Songs Which Appeared On The Show, While John Hiatt's Engaging, Ripsaw Rendition Of John Lennon's "instant Karma!" Seems Included Only To Make Hay From Actor Jason Lee's Mantra ("karma Is A Funny Thing"). The Surprise Is That The Soundtrack Manages To Seem Thoroughly Contemporary, Even Though Many Of The Tracks--particularly Sammy Davis Jr.'s Rendition Of "smoke! Smoke! Smoke! (that Cigarette)" May Be Older Than Earl Himself.
--alanna Nash
The soundtrack to the #1 NBC comedy features brand-new, never-before-released tracks from Matthew Sweet, Uncle Kracker, John Hiatt and rock newcomers Van Nuys, recorded exclusively for the soundtrack. In addition, the album includes some of Earl's favorite songs used in episodes which aired during the premiere '05-'06 season. The soundtrack also contains key sound bytes from the show, and an unheard vocal version of the "My Name Is Earl" theme song.
