Don't Take It Too Seriously
Crank is a movie that never entirely takes itself seriously, and that is the key reason it succeeds. If you go to watch it with a mindset to see a realistic, ground-breaking, or witty action movie, you will be disappointed. However, if you...

Crank Quick Review
This is a video game masquerading as a movie. As long as you realize that, you'll have fun. It's all action, and none of it is really believable, but that's the point of video games anyway. This one just happens to be controlled for you.

Crank Quick Review
Wow, this is hysterically bad. But I like Jason Statham so I gave it a shot. It is entertaining, but only for the fact that it is so stupid. My favorite part maybe was the car chase scene in the mall.

A surprising movie
by Mat van gogh (Philadephia,PA)
This movie wont win any awards, but this is one of the coolest( and weirdest) films I've ever seen. it seems to be almost like a video game, but with real acting, action, drama, stunts, etc. Most of the time it never takes itself seriously and the film goes in and out of reality quite a bit. Its both smart and stupid( but in a good way)That being said, i think it is the most adrenaline charged film I've ever seen ( taking into consideration it only costs 12 million to make) it feel like it costs alot more.Great fun, funny dialogue and situations.
It also contains a spin on the film DOA and its remake.I wont go into anything more there. You would have have to see it for yourself
As far as the DVD goes, a decent amount of extras. The commentary track is one of a kind- it also contains a little picture-in-picture video in the bottom while u can watch the film around it and see how the film was made.I like this feature for the most part. The only problem with it is , while the content in the commentary is informative, feels more like a documentary on the film than a true commentary track where the commentators discuss things going on the screen at that very moment.Instead of putting this a separate entity on the DVD in the special features section, they made it as the commentary track that played in a small box while you watch the film.Either way, its well worth the price.I highly recommend this.

Faster, faster, more!
by Tim Brough (Springfield, PA United States)
Jason Stratham is having a really bad day. Professional assassin Chev Chelios wakes up in his Los Angeles loft to find a DVD with an obscenity scrawled across it. The DVD reveals his main gang enemy has injected him with a poison that will kill slowly. The only way to stave this off is if he keeps his adrenaline pumping. Think the old classic suspense movie D.O.A. on steroids. Oh, and make sure that the humor is adolescently macho and try and ignore the thicky misogyny, and you'll probably get a kick out of "Crank."
There's a lot of really loud popcorn dumbness to be found here, with Stratham leading the charge. "Crank" is a sort of elevated grindhouse, with illogical feats in abundance. Making a cell phone call while falling from 40,ooo feet? Sure. banging your girlfriend in the middle of a Chinatown plaza with a busload of tourists looking on? Why not? Hitting a street after a terminal velocity freefall and not going splat like a rotten pumpkin? Couldn't do a sequel if that happened, could we? So zap the microwave popcorn and pop a brewski...and deny to your friends that you actually watched this. But it's still IQ mangling fun.

Crank
by T. J. Karasek (Longview, WA)
Extreme action flick that may be a little over the top for some people. I rented Crank 2 and found it was over the top for me and also unbelievable.
2/5
over the line
by Peter Gerlach (Portland, OR)
The characters are interesting, the action is entertaining and creative in spots, and the plot was acceptably predictable (except the 1-hour-to-live deadline.) I'm sad and disappointed that whoever allowed this flick to go public thought that the sexual aspects of the action (the Chinatown incident) and some of the crude cartoon-language were titillating and funny. I found them pre-juvenile and pathetic. I've lost respect for Statham as an otherwise fine peformer and Lionsgate as a provider for accepting that trash as morally acceptable. On the assumption that Crank 2 and 3 are more of the same, I'll spend my money elsewhere. I encourage parents to see this flick before deciding whether their kids should see the series.

Another Statham Thrill Ride
by C. A. Minnis (Philadelphia,PA USA)
Action packed, fast paced on the edge of your chair. Sit back and go for the ride.
Crank (Widescreen Edition) Summary
Professional Assassin Chev Chelios Learns His Rival Has Injected Him With A Poison That Will Kill Him If His Heart Rate Drops.
Action anti-hero Jason Statham is competing with himself to make the most relentless, non-stop action flick imaginable. In
Crank
, Statham stars as a hit man named Chev Chelios who's been poisoned by some Chinese toxin; the only way to stave it off is to keep his adrenalin flowing, which requires him to drive at top speeds through crowded traffic, start fights in bars, and run pell-mell down hospital corridors while wearing one of those humiliating smocks that tie in the back. In other words,
Crank
is high-end pop-trash, filled with many preposterous/ingenious stunts and over-the-top performances (Dwight Yoakam,
Sling Blade
, is downright droll as a doctor offering Chev assistance), marred by an unpleasant attitude towards women (Amy Smart,
Outside Providence
, will not look back on this as one of her signature roles). This is a movie for the audience who enjoyed
Transporter
and
Transporter 2
but wanted Statham's perpetual scowl to become a kind of theatrical mask, a perpetual signifier of intensity that begs--nay, demands--that everything around it rise to a mutual level of absurdity. Fans of Luc Besson (
Leon/The Professional
,
District 13
) will find
Crank
to be simpatico.
