A romantic obsession...
by Edmonson (Canada)
"Cashback", directed by Sean Ellis, is a film about a romantic insomniac. After breaking up with his girlfriend Ben (Sean Biggerstaff) finds that he can't fall asleep so he finds that he has eight hours of extra time per day on his hands. He decides to use this time in order to make some money working at a supermarket. He realizes that he also has a miraculous talent. He can stop time. As an aspiring artist he uses this ability to freeze those around him and sketch them. He's romantically obsessed with the beauty he sees in the female form and spends a great deal of his spare time sketching the women he sees.
This interesting film is at times extremely light hearted and manic, while at other times it flows like in a dream, unfolding time gradually before our eyes. The other male characters in the movie are largely comic relief to Ben's level headed, and thoughtful personality. The woman are icons of his adoration, and like beautiful statues, that pose for him, as he views and sketches them. This is a movie about reverie, and reflection about the beautiful moments in our lives. It is also spiced up with some genteelly eroticism, and many comic moments.

Artist Studies T & A to Find The Face of Love
by C. F. Mullins (Springfield, OH)
Excellent DVD. There is a short version and a full-length version on the DVD. At the far end of the full-length version there is a story to tell and it has a Chick-Flick Happy Ending, which you don't see coming at all with the short version. It is challenging to watch them one after the other, especially with company, but the short version is handy when you want to view the art and the comedy and don't want to play with the remote to avoid more dramatic and inspiring scenarios.

Great British Romance
by Thomas Hurst
I was a bit skeptical about this film at first, and judging by the cover, I thought it might be more of a comedy along the lines of Y.P.F., but after watching it online, then deciding to buy it, I've come to see this film is more of a classic romance with a surreal, almost fantasy twist. When it comes to it, this movie is similar to Girl Next Door in many ways, you expect possibly raunchy humor and get a touching romance with some fantastic laughs.
The main character is an art student that passes time at his night job by imagining that he can freeze time. As the film progresses, we begin to really wonder whether he is imagining this frozen time, or is truly freezing time. But other than this element, it is truly a very sweet romance that brings the characters to the forefront, and lets us in to their little world.
Entertaining, thought provoking, hilarious, and sweet. Really what more are we looking for in a film like this?
Easily one of my very favorites.
Disclaimer: This is a film that not only features, but focuses on female nudity. It is pertinent to the plot, presented appropriately, and through an artist's eye. However for some more sensitive (read overly-sensitive) viewers.

Great movie if you're into still life
by F. Galvan (Houston, TX)
I'll be honest, I only rented this movie because of the cover image. After watching it I went ahead and BOUGHT it because I liked it so much. I've been working with still life most of my life up until recent years and this movie got me back into it. It was a great movie and recommend it to my friends.
Cashback Summary

They all have their own time-killing devices, and Ben s allows him to see the beauty of the everyday world including the people inside it especially Sharon, the quiet checkout girl, who just may hold the answer to resolvin
Cashback (dvd Movie)
A slight but likable British comedy-fantasy with a touch of naughtiness,
Cashback
is an expanded version of director Sean Ellis' Oscar-nominated short film of the same name about a bored supermarket clerk who discovers that he has the ability to stop time. Sean Biggerstaff (from the
Harry Potter
franchise) is Ben, a lovelorn young man whose chronic insomnia (due to a bad breakup) forces him to bury himself in pointless and repetitive work at a local grocery store. Once there, boredom causes him to believe that he can stop time, and he enjoys long and languid fantasies about undressing and sketching the female shoppers. But reality intrudes in the form of recollections of his troubled past, as well as the lovely presence of fellow clerk Sharon (Emilia Fox), who offers the promise of love in the real world. A gentle and artfully directed independent film,
Cashback
doesn't run very deep in terms of emotion, but the special effects are clever, the cast quirky and amusing, and its premise is an appealing mix of softcore reverie and boyish longing.
