Next Quick Review
Yeah... I pass. I was happy when I was about to see a Philip Dick's adaptation, but I was also cautious, since Lee Tamahori isn't a good director. So, in short, stay away from this flick. Is not good (I hope the book is better)

A good idea that never pans out. I love the idea behind the film, but the actors just don't look that into it. Everyone looks like they're sleepwalking through their part. Some good effects help, but can't save the film.

Another bad movie from Nic Cage?? Jeez....
by Alan Starr (Lawrence, MA)
Yet another bad movie from Nicholas Cage. And Julianne Moore sucked too. Only redeeming part of the movie was Jessica Biel, who is a babe and did a pretty good job playing the requisite damsel-in-distress.

A hit, a knew this 2 minutes ago ?
by Reynaldo Salcedo (Los Angeles)
If only I could tell time, it would be scary situation. Death would be to real to soon. But then again Lottery Numbers would be, well you know ?

Cool, fun, not great.
by Almostunbiased (The middle of everywhere)
Critics didn't rave over this, but I thought it was a really cool idea and ended up being a very interesting movie. Nic Cage (is his usual self as far as acting goes) plays a man who can see into the future, but only minutes into the future, and Jessica Biel is stunning as his soon to be girlfriend who can help him extend his powers.
This movie has some great scenes where Nic Cage outsmarts or rather sees what his enemy's will do before they do it so he can escape, and Julianne Moore does a good job as the FBI agent who is after him. Where the movie doesn't quite succeed is where Nic has to stop people from setting off a nuclear bomb. Where the movie starts great and gets you involved not only in his mysterious power, but his romantic involvement with Miss Biel, it falls just a little short on the action near its end and the special effects are far from special.
Still I enjoyed the movie and I have watched it several times and continue to enjoy it. It just could have been better.

Time enough for love
by bernie (Arlington, Texas)
A Las Vegas magician may be more than he appears to be. Nicholas Cage plays the part of Chris Johnson a man with a secret. He has the ability to look two minutes into the future. An FBI agent played by Julianne Moore discovers him. She requires his ability to prevent a catastrophe.
Will Chris Johnson look forward to helping or does he realize that once he is discovered he will be incarcerated for life and treated like a freak?
Just as FBI agents and other nefarious entities are pursuing him, he also has a vision of the future love played by Jessica Biel. What can he do? He must follow his vision; this complicates things.
We have the thrill of following Chris through his trials and tribulations as he balances his social responsibility and his need for love. We must always keep in mind that no good deed goes unpunished.
This is a formula film, which you have seen the formula many times such as in "Run Lola Run" (1998). On the other hand, a more action packed "déjà vu" (2006). I seen the Blu-Ray version of this film and it is well designed for Blu-Ray both in visuals and in sound. Be sure to look at the extras like "two minutes in the future with Jessica Biel". It may not be thought provoking but its darn good entertainment.

Picture and sound quality were awesome- nice price too
by John N. Twist (Morgantown, WV)
Others have provided the story-line. I took the plunge based on customer reviews and the relatively low price for this Blu-Ray title. Nicolas Cage's acting style, not to be disparaging ;), fits well in this movie. The movie is entertaining to those who like action movies that do not follow a linear progression and are not looking for a lot of butt-kicking by the protagonist. This may be the last movie that Peter Falk (one cameo scene) will appear based on recent news that he is suffering from Alzheimer's disease and advanced dementia. I found the movie was more entertaining upon a second viewing- many of the subtle plot elements became more evident. The video and sound quality were outstanding (Sony 52" XBR6 and BDP-550 Blu-Ray player).
Next [Blu-ray] Summary
Bluray Disc
The weirdness of actor Nicolas Cage and the weirdness of science-fiction author Philip K. Dick seem like a natural fit. The premise, taken from a short story by Dick, is a good one: A mediocre Las Vegas magician named Chris Johnson (Cage) can see into the future--but only about two minutes at the most. Just enough to pull off his act and to make some money at the gambling tables, so long as he's discreet. Unfortunately, he hasn't been discreet enough; a government agent (Julianne Moore) has sussed out his precognitive talent and wants to use him to track down terrorists. But all Johnson cares about is a beautiful young woman (Jessica Biel,
The Illusionist
) that he can see in his future--much further in his future than he's ever seen before.
Next
has flashes that point to a much, much better movie than it turned out to be. A sequence in which Johnson, clairvoyantly explores all the different permutations of how he might approach his mystery woman is both funny and thought-provoking, and when Johnson avoids pursuers by knowing just the right moment to turn a corner or duck his head, it's smart and suspenseful. Unfortunately, the terrorist part of the plot is utterly perfunctory and precognition is reduced to an action movie gimmick. Somewhere in there is the kernel of a romantic comedy about precognition that's just waiting to be made. Cage gives a solid if unsurprising performance, Moore is basically earning a paycheck, but Biel is unexpectedly good (and her part is considerably better-written than your usual romantic interest); her performance suggests a better future than anyone might have predicted.
