John Cage: Variations VII/ 9 Evenings in Theatre & Engineering Summary John Cage’s Variations VII was performed at 9 Evenings: Theatre & Engineering in October 1966 at the 69th Regiment Armory in New York City. Variations VII was the next to last in Cage’s series of indeterminate works that he had begin in 1958, which made increasing use of electronic equipment and systems. This DVD documents the only complete performance of Variations VII and also presents a stereo audio recording of the full 85 minutes of the performance. The edited archival footage of the performance is followed by interviews with participants which include artists and composers as well as engineers and scientists from Bell Telephone Laboratories who were the collaborators for the 9 Evenings as brought together by Robert Rauschenberg and Billy Klüver.
