Best Movie of 2008
by J. Rosenstein (Silicon Valley, USA)
This Movie Kicks some Serious A$$. Great Story, Awesome Acting, Killer Bikes & Beautiful Babes.
It doesn't get much better than this.
Great directing, spectacular cinematography and really cool special features.
This movie belongs in the collection with all of the great classics, like Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Westerns, and Tarantino flicks.

Dissapointing
by Scott Williams
I had high hopes for this film cause Tarantino got behind it, but this movie was really bad. Honestly, the only thing good about this movie was the naked girls.

I had to IMDB this to make sure Tarantino didn't direct it...Would have been 5 stars if Eric Balfour wasn't in it!!!

I found this movie on HBO On-Demand and had to watch it because the cast list had Michael Madsen, David Carradine & Vinnie Jones (Snatch/Bullet Tooth Tony). At first, I thought it was directed by Tarantino with the mode and music of the film but as it turns out, it is directed by Larry Bishop who played a minor role as the Strip Club owner in Kill Bill Vol. 2. The movie is about rival motorcycle gangs with a back story of revenge. I am not going to give away any of the movie.
James Carradine only has a small role but he plays it to a tee. Michael Madsen is just awsome as "The Gent" and Dennis Hopper even makes an appearance as Eddie Zero. The only drawback is that the major role of Sonny Kisum was played by Eric Balfour who's only good role was in Texas Chainsaw Massacre. He just tries way to hard at the beginning of the film although in his defense, he does get a bit better towards the middle and the end.

I will never get those minutes of my life back....
by NineseveN (Underneath your bed)
Let's see;
1. Stiff and uninspiring acting? Check
2. Weak, awkward and clichéd dialog? Check
3. Ineffective or dull camera work? Check
4. No semblance of an interesting story to be found? Check.
5. People cast simply due to their star power in order to attract their fans? Check.
6. Poorly chosen props? Check.
7. Instantly forgettable characters? Check.
8. A lack of anything engaging enough to make one actually care what the point of the film is? Check.
9. Plenty of young, naked females? Check.
10. Absolutely ridiculous character names? Check.
Reading the above, it might sound like I was reviewing a pornography film, and with Hell Ride, that's almost true. Sadly, even for porn's standards, Hell Ride is garbage. I've seen better plots with similar character performance and dialog from titles in the adult section. I totally understand what it was supposed to be, but it just never quite got there and remained entertaining, engaging or relevant. The dialog all feels forced, with the 2-second pauses between every new sentence or exchange not helping that at all. It sounded like listening to nearly illiterate adults trying to read which makes it hard to get immersed or even interested in. The plot felt like an afterthought, tacked on wherever there was a convenient place to stop and show bland flashbacks and tripping scenes. It wouldn't surprise me if the more gratuitous nudity was added after the fact once they saw the rough cut of the film and realized that it was completely devoid of anything worth spending time with the film for. If my movie sucked this bad, I'd probably load it up with slutbunnies too, At least the girls were mostly hot, until they or anyone else on camera started reciting the garbage that passed for dialog in this script.

HOLY COOL!
by Brian Lueth (Chicago, IL United States)
Yeah, actually, that's what Hell Ride was, cool; in some cases it was a bit too cool for its own good. The grindhouse chic, ultra-witty banter that emanated from these nasty, filthy, scumbag criminal bikers was almost more than I could bear. If Bishop was looking to bang off of Tarantino's designer trash vibe, he succeeded.
I gotta confess though, if a sleazebag biker must be witty, there's no better actor than Michael Madsen to fill those shoes. Matter of fact, the entire film was filled with classy casting with appearances by David Carradine, Dennis Hopper and legendary soccer hooligan Vinnie Jones. Aside from the unrealistic dialogue, each actor churned out brilliant little performances, especially from Jones who gets a choice sequence in which he explains why his name is Billy Wings and what all the different colored wings tatted on him mean. Trust me, disturbing stuff.
Would Hell Ride have been as interesting had there not been COPIOUS amounts of nudity, drugs and violence? Probably not, then again, would we even be talking about this flick if it didn't have all those wonderful little goodies? Would we be talking about this film if it didn't star Michael Madsen as a dandy-outfitted biker? Once again, probably not.
As for Hell Ride's story...well...it's touch and go. The group I watched it with were left confused and a little disgruntled, apparently things that probably should have been clarified, weren't. Naturally, those of us "in the know" are fully aware of this style of filmmaking, especially these days, but I can see why this film may have the average viewer scratching their head. As for me...count me in on loving this one.
Hell Ride Summary
Studio: Genius Products Inc Release Date: 10/28/2008 Rating: R
Actor Larry Bishop, who made his name in the '60s as the star of biker pictures like
The Savage Seven
, revives the genre with
Hell Ride
, a rough and raunchy action-drama produced by indie director and cult film aficionado Quentin Tarantino. Bishop, who wrote, produced and directed the film, is also top-billed as Pistolero, chief of the outlaw Victors, who cruise the sunbaked Southwest to avenge a fallen mama. Their target is Billy Wings (Vinnie Jones), head man for the Six-Six-Sixes, and Michael Madsen, David Carradine and Dennis Hopper (himself no stranger to biker flicks) are along to make sure that the job is completed. As pure exploitation,
Hell Ride
delivers the goods: the cast overacts with relish, and the on-screen excitement is divided equally between chopper action, fistfights and shootouts and plentiful female nudity, all set to a soundtrack of new and vintage fuzztone rock. However, those expecting the complexity and sheer cheek of Tarantino's own features may find the picture a little too retro-minded for their own tastes, and Bishop's pulpy dialogue is more overcooked than Tarantino at his most self-indulgent. Still, those craving old-school cycle movie satisfaction are likely to find that action with
Hell Ride
. Bishop is front and center for the DVD commentary, in which he explains in the most passionate of terms how he conceived and executed the project with Tarantino's help; featurettes on the cast (split between male and female) are brief and flashy, with "The Guys of
Hell Ride
" providing the most juice by focusing on the veteran actors. There's also a look at the film's custom made bikes, but the most "special" of the Special Features is Michael Madsen's video diary, which gives amusing insight into his distinctly offbeat perspective.
