Bender's Game or Bender's Groan?
by Brian Lueth (Chicago, IL United States)
I gotta say, I'm a big fan of Futurama and I really enjoyed their previous two films, sorta, but what the heck went wrong? I remember a time when Futurama was witty, clever and laugh-out-loud funny, Bender's Game wasn't all that witty, clever or laugh-out-loud funny. Fact is I really didn't enjoy myself at all while watching this and, trust me, that's rather hard to admit being such a follower of the TV series and films.
Okay, I get it, the entire thing was a tribute to Gary Gygax and his D&D legacy as well as a LOTR parody, I'm good with all that but I just wasn't entertained by any of it. The winks, nods and yuks, none of them seemed to really be effective this film installment around, it all felt so "by-the-numbers" and uninspired. Perhaps this will work better once it's split into episodes and aired on cable but I won't be tuning in to this again. Let's hope the fourth film installment offers us the type of Futurama that spawned the loyal cult following it has today.

The Oddest One
by M. L. Dann (Elko Nv)
Futurama Bender's Game Is by far the strangest one of the four Futurama Movies From the beginning intro it tells you its gunna be a trip but still has the smart humor I enjoy watching futurama for.

Good futurama film
by David Leggat (Detroit, MI)
I love futurama and this was a good film. It wasn't my favorit of the 4 films but I am glad I bought it. My brother and I have watched it over and over and there are some halarious things happening in this film. I didn't give it the full 5 stars because they way the story is written makes it seem like 2 films and I had to watch it twice before I fully got how that all goes together.
Anyway, love it, need more, get it, and have a slurm party watching it.

I miss Futurama
by J. L. DIBIASI (NYC)
I'd put this final installment of the 4 direct to DVD Futurama 'movies' as the 2nd best, a distant second to the first one 'Bender's big score' but a good/decent one none the less.
I wouldn't bother buying this for anyone who isn't already a Futurama fan, I don't see this winning any converts- but where else are you going to get your Futurama fill? Sure we can wait for these to come out on TV but I know buying the DVD is doing my part to help convince the powers that be that Futurama needs to come back, either as a TV show or a movie or something.

An ode to Dungeons and Dragons and the best Futurama film so far!
by L Gontzes (Athens, Greece)
Futurama: Bender's Game brings Dungeons and Dragons to the thirty first century. With Bender hooked on the popular role-playing game, Fry and the rest of the gang try to get to the bottom of a dark matter shortage. What they find on the way is surely going to rock their world! A tribute to Gary Gygax, the late creator of Dungeons and Dragons, the movie also makes references to Star Wars and Star Trek, the latter with a guest appearance by George Takei!
All the actors, without exceptions, give it their 100% and it really shows (the animation does come alive)! Very well written and very well presented, the movie is without a doubt guaranteed to provide more than just a few laughs.
The setting, the plot, the dialogues, the humor, and the music are all excellent!
Following the cancellation of the show (I wonder what "genius" came up with that idea???) life was pretty hard without these amazing characters. The comic books are good, but nothing beats the actual show, so it's so good to have everybody back.
Strongly recommended along with the other three Futurama films: Bender's Big Score, The Beast with a Billion Backs, and Into the Wild Green Yonder.
In short, KEEP'EM COMING!!!
Futurama: Bender's Game Summary
With fuel prices skyrocketing, the Planet Express crew sets off on a dangerous mission: to infiltrate the world's only dark-matter mine, source of all spaceship fuel. But deep beneath the surface lies a far stranger place. a medieval land of dragons and sorcery and intoxicated knights who look suspiciously like Bender. So park your hover-car and saddle up your unicorn for Futurama's grand
Studio: Tcfhe Release Date: 11/04/2008 Run Time: 90 Minutes Rating: Nr
At once a merciless skewering of all things fanboy and an extremely satisfying addition to the
Futurama
franchise,
Bender's Game
is among the best of the animated series' feature length adventures. The game in question is Dungeons and Dragons, and Bender wants in--only robots aren't programmed with the necessary imagination. Naturally, Bender's plans to develop one go completely awry and land him in an android asylum. The role-playing plotline later re-emerges--in typically convoluted
Futurama
fashion--via a subplot involving Professor Farnsworth's conversion of dark matter into spaceship fuel, which created a key to a very D&D-influenced universe where our hapless heroes eventually find themselves. The alternate world storyline allows for much lampooning of fantasy tropes, with
Lord of the Rings
receiving the lion's share of the tweaks. Seeing as how the writers have already devoted much of the movie's running time to parodying
Star Wars
and
Star Trek
(and their Lego offshoots), one might think that
Bender's Game
might suffer from pop-culture overload, but surprisingly, it all feels fresh and frequently funny, and the writers are wise to ground the story in their eccentric characters rather than pinballing them through an endless string of gags. The result is probably the strongest of the direct-to-DVD
Futurama
releases to date, and one that newcomers to the show's cracked universe can appreciate as much as longtime fans.As with previous
Futurama
DVD releases, the extras come fast and furious on
Bender's Game
: commentary by members of the cast and production team (including Matt Groening) is both informative and funny, while interviews with the writers and producers discuss, among other topics, the influence of Dungeons and Dragons on the series and the 3D models used in the feature. Aspiring animators might appreciate "How To Draw
Futurama
in 83 Easy Steps and the storyboard animatic for the first part of the story, while the "Genetics Lab" feature allows for some amusing Dr. Moreau-style cross-breeding of the characters. Recording session bloopers and a deleted scene offer their own laughs, but the most enjoyable extra must be the preview for the next
Futurama
feature,
Into the Wild Green Yonder
, which suggests a shocking development for one of the show's regulars.
