This sequel should have stayed buried.
The first two Mummy movies were far from action masterpieces, but when you compare them to this crappy film, they seem like Oscar contenders. The movie lacks the central chemistry that made the first two films fun and charming and without ...

The Curse of the Daddy
Chinese mummies are awesome. Unfortunately, this isn't a movie about mummies -- it's about daddy. If you didn't give a damn about Indian Jones and his father-son issues, this film will be painfully boring.
Maria Bello replaces Rachel ...

Its difficult to decide which aspect of the film is most ridiculous. I suppose it could be the title, which is misleading. There isnt actually a mummy in the film. Sure, there are ancient figures raised from the dead, but theyre more li...

Letdown,Letdown,Letdown. This is Awful.
I like The first mummy movie of the series, yuh know why? because it was a decent movie. It wasn't even really good. The sequel was just as good and the third film of the Mummy Franchise, 'Tomb of the Dragon Emperor', is f***in' awful.

Third Time Not as Charming for The Mummy
The mummy franchise always seemed like a half-hearted, albeit with its own charm, attempt at reworking the Indiana Jones movies with more humor, lots of action but couldn't quite capture that heart.
The third installment of the franchis...

Army of Darkness without the comedy
I hate to see the rule of gravity apply to a franchise that unexpectedly brings back the audience's interests to ancient Egypt, pharaohs and of course mummies who we all loved to hate. Well to me it is hard to see the Mummy franchise reduc...

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor Quick Review
Rob Cohen, na direção, é tão vulgar e desastrado que faz os capítulos anteriores de Stephen Sommers parecerem obras-primas de elegância formal. Aqui, a série descamba de vez para a tosqueira e a comédia rasgada. Uma pena.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor Quick Review
Hugely disappointing. Yeah, all the critics said it sucked ('cept ebert). They were right. None of the fun of the original is here and Chinese mummies just aren't the same. Rob Cohen sucks real bad.

Fun 3rd installment
by Michael Andrews (New York, NY)
In 1999, director Stephen Sommers breathed new life into the classic Mummy character and did it again a couple of years later with "The Mummy Returns". Under Sommers, the first two films were fun, exciting, action packed FX-driven extravaganzas along the lines of Indiana Jones. In short, i liked them a lot. Now, Director Rob Cohen takes over the franchise, and while its not quite as brilliant as the first two, it's still fun and has its moments.
Brendan Frazer returns as Rick, intrepid adventurer and Maria Bello now takes over the role of Evelyn, since now Oscar winner Rachel Weisz didnt want to be part of the franchise again (I missed her sexy presence). This time, our heroes battle an ancient Chinese warlord bent on world conquest (oh, what fun). Jet Li plays the villian. Luke Ford plays Rick and Evelyn's son, now all grown up. Believe me, i didnt quite believe Ford and Frazer as father and son (there looked like a ten yr age difference between the two actors, for God's sake). Anyway, one fun but brief part in the film concerns an encounter with three Yetis in the Himalayas.
If you dont expect too much and just go with the flow, you may enjoy "Tomb of the Dragon Emperor".

Great Adition To The Series
by David A. Smith (Webberville, Mi, USA)
The 3rd instalment of the mummy series is a good adition but i think they should stop where they are before they ruin it. I Love this movie. I Recommend This Movie For Everyone. if you liked this movie then check out the other two Mummy movies.

Interesting..
by Regina H. (Washington, DC)
I was thrown at first by Rachel Weisz's replacement. I think it would have been better with her. The son looked too close to Brendan Fraser's age to me... but otherwise I really enjoyed it. Brendan Fraser really can do no wrong and I will watch whatever he is in. I liked the action, the romance and the scenery was beautiful. The story was intriguing.... I'd watch another 'Mummy' installment... hey, maybe they can find some here in the Nations Capital ;0) ....

nice action and entertainment
by B. E Jackson (Pennsylvania)
These are the kind of action movies I hardly EVER watch. The Indiana Jones type, as I like to call them. Exciting movies perhaps, but they feel so... bombastic and fake.
This movie is no exception, but something about it is more appealing to me compared to all those Indiana Jones and James Bond films. The visual effects are pretty stunning, I know that much. The snowmen/ape creatures were unique, the transformations involving the main mummy were VERY well done and looked stunning to be completely honest, and the story was good enough that I'd call it enjoyable.
Even the army of creatures with swords that we saw at the end of the movie were pretty fun, though it was hard to believe only a few people were able to take ALL of them out, haha. But they were so WEIRD looking, and every time their heads would be chopped off I'd sit there amazed how cool it looked. This is one beautiful movie.
Maybe I should check out more movies with a similar feel and style and not just write them off as "terrible" so quickly, because honestly, these kind of storylines CAN in fact be enjoyable given some time to adjust to the overall whacky style the writers must have been going for. The action is good, the characters... well, they could have been better to be honest. A British woman, an American guy (who I didn't particularly care for) and his obnoxious son. These characters could (and should) have been better.
Other than that, surprisingly good action film.

I WANT MY MUMMY BACK!
by ! MR. KNOW IT ALL ;-b (TRI STATE AREA)
I am a vintage horror fan and I was excited to hear they were going to revamp the Mummy series back in the 90's and while the first film in the new series was entertaining it was a far cry from the original 1931 classic with Boris Karloff. 'The Mummy Returns' was pretty bad, almost causing me to not even give this third outing a look. Since it came on cable I decided to give it a shot.
The film starts out promising with a cool set up in China, but soon after the opening credits role it goes downhill. The makers of these films try forcing so many comedic elements into them; it takes all tension away and actually slows the pace of the film down. This film could have been pretty good, if it was played a little more serious. In fact if they deleted the entire ridiculous comedy and uninspired romances scenes out, it would play much better. It's very frustrating to see a good idea gone so terribly wrong.
To make matters worse the CGI is unconvincing most of the time and having Yeti make goal post GOOD signs with their arms is nothing short of ludicrous! This film and all of the films in the series should have been played straight. It's a shame that some films makers don't seem to have a clue that stupid jokes are never welcomed or any "cojones" for that matter to make a film that isn't going to appeal to an age group too young to see this film any way! My 2 stars rating is generous.
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (Widescreen) Summary
Studio: Uni Dist Corp. (mca) Release Date: 12/16/2008 Run Time: 112 Minutes Rating: Pg13
The third film in the
The Mummy
series freshens the franchise up by setting the action in China. There, the discovery of an ancient emperor's elaborate tomb proves a feather in the cap of Alex O'Connell (Luke Ford), a young archaeologist and son of Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) and his wife Evelyn (Maria Bello, taking over the role from Rachel Weisz). Unfortunately, a curse that turned the emperor (Jet Li) and his army into terra cotta warriors buried for centuries is lifted, and the old guy prepares for world domination by seeking immortality at Shangri La. The O'Connells barely stay a step ahead of him (climbing through the Himalaya mountains with apparent ease), but the action inevitably leads to a showdown between two armies of mummies in a Chinese desert.
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
has a lot to offer: a supporting cast that includes the elegant Michelle Yeoh, Russell Wong, and Liam Cunningham, the unexpected appearance of several Yeti, and a climactic battle sequence that is nightmarishly weird but compelling. On the downside, the charm so desperately sought in romantic relationships, as well as comic turns by John Hannah (as Evelyn's rascal brother), is not only absent but often annoying. Rarely have witty asides in the thick of battle been more unwelcome in a movie. Rob Cohen's direction is largely crisp if sometimes curious (a fight between Fraser and Jet Li keeps varying in speed for some reason), but his vision of Shangri La, in the Hollywood tradition, is certainly attractive. --
