For those who think good old American violence is just too tame these days, pop in Ichi the Killer and in 15 minutes you will have your fill. Graphic, over-the-top violence - as long as you do not take it seriously, you will come out OK.

::WARNING - SPOILERS:: Oh, it is directed by Takashi Miike and arrives with the "Eli Roth seal of approval." Wow, I cannot think of a better reason not to like this movie. Oh, wait, hold on... because it blows! The "ultraviolence" is not even manga inspired but rather comic bookish. This seems like a joke with no punchline. Just an unlikable title character with no backbone who hacks people apart with his feet. This is moviemaking at its most lame. For all of you (myself included) who loved Audition and Imprint, this does not have anything close to the same signature feel. It just seems like an overbudgeted acid trip. Sorry I wasted time on it. No stars.

5/5 No, it WON'T be the cut version

If anyone is familiar with the 2004 released TokyoShock uncut DVD, you may or may not be aware that the runtime on the back of that DVD read "124 Minutes", which turned out to be false. That DVD was the full 129 minute uncut version. The blood bag DVD edition has that same runtime listed on the back cover too. By 124 minutes, they mean with the PAL compression (which is strange since this film is banned from being released uncut in the UK). So therefore, this will indeed be the uncut version that we all love. I can't wait to buy this on blu-ray, despite I already own the DVD (but seriously, it's worth the upgrade!).

This film is a nice tribute to cinema. It defitnitly has some shock appeal to it but then again it can't be taken to seriously. For those who are looking for something extremely different and can stomach footage of women getting beaten, tits getting cut off, plus escessive artierial blood spray, then give this a chance. You will like it guaranteed. The story is what actually makes this film watchable. It is of a sadistic pain loving gangsta who is searching for some missing loot. The lead actor, Tadanobu Asano is great and most of his flicks are worth checking into. This blu ray disc has been delayed and I'll continue my review with picture and sound quality hopefully soon.
