5/5 Three Little Pigs DVD

The "Three Little Pigs" DVD is great! It has the "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?" song in it. The children love the song and action. There are two more Big Bad Wolf and Three Pigs short movies plus a couple more wolf short movies. I had the VHS version and the DVD version has more short movies. I teach kindergarten and I highly recommend this DVD for any age group.

I have been looking and looking for a DVD of this for a long while. I am aware these cartoons were on vol 1. of the Silly Symphonies but that DVD is no longer available to purchase. Thank goodness for this re-release of cartoons which are great Disney classics. I intend to show this to my great niece and nephew. I appreciate the color and feel a classic cartoon which still deserves to be seen over and over again.

3/5 This dvd went to market but the litho stayed in the vault

Okay the dvd may have come out to buy and your suppose to get a free litho with each dvd in the series but the my copy of the three little pigs did not. So the did went to market and the litho stayed in the vault. I did not get mine copy from amazon.
However it is still a good movie to add to any disney collection. Many of the shorts are ones that have not been released before from disney's vault buit you have to wonder if this means that more previously unreleased shorts and or movies will be coimng in the furture.
While it would have been nice if these shorts would have been digitally remastered they are still enjoyable to watch. If you like disney and classic animation i recomend these dvds. I am looking forward to getting the rest and hope that the will eventually come out on a dvd in remastered form.

2/5 Like watching a Reality TV Show...

The pigs end up sharing accomodation. The story begins with
each having their own place. One pig has a house made of
straw, another a house made of wood, and the third has a
house made of brick. A wolf comes along and threatens to
demolish the first pig's house, which is made of straw, if
he doesn't let the wolf in. The pig refuses, and the wolf
makes good on his promise. The pig takes refuge in the
house made of wood with the other pig. Same thing
happens. After this, we see three little pigs in a house made
of brick, and the wolf cannot get in, because this house, the
one made of brick, is of better construction than the other
two. And that's the story.

It is interesting that the 3 pigs live separate and apart from
each other, and are unequal in terms of economic status.
(They are not "conjoined triplets" who have to learn to get along.)
What ultimately unites these 3 pigs is the threat of the "big
bad wolf". Perhaps the pigs represent 3 socio-economic
classes: low, middle, and high. What unites them is the
external threat: Hence, perhaps the "big bad wolf" represents
'the threat of an alien invasion', or 'an impending enviro-mental
catastrophe', as in, FDR's statement: "The only thing we have
to fear, is fear itself", in other words, "terrorism". Without
the "big bad wolf" would these pigs learn to get along?

An imaginary enemy, or doubt, can unite a people. Perception
is reality, but reality may not be perception. It is interesting
how two models can be observationally equivalent, but give
different descriptions of reality.

Also, a house made of wood implies a sharp axe was used
during its construction. An axe implies metallurgy. And brick
is made of clay, which comes from the ground, which God
cursed for man's sake. A brick house also implies the use
of metal tools. And so, of the three kinds of houses, the house
made of straw appears to be the most sacred, the least tainted
with slavery, the least likely to have been constructed with
tears or bloodshed. The straw house reminds me
of Superman's Fortress of Solitude, made of crystals, with
no trees having been cut. Maybe if the pigs were not so
afraid of the wolf, and had more faith,...But I guess they
trust in earthly riches, which is why they all end up in the
brick house rather than the straw house...I recommend the
book over this DVD. For reading is still better than this energy
intensive audio-visual medium, known as "Disney Animation",
which requires a monitor (perhaps one difficult to recycle).

4/5 Just what I wanted.

I wasn't looking for the [...] box set of shorts so I was very happy with what I got. Classic Disney shorts that my 4 year old niece loves. I remember these from when I was little and they are as fun now as they were then. It doesn't say that they were "remastered" so I didn't expect or want a new looking shows. The sound was fine and the picture was fine so it is getting a 4 out of 5 from me.
