3/5 The New Age Jesus

Deepak Chopra is much more concerned with enlightenment than salvation. In this short three-part DVD he explores the wisdom of Jesus and how it relates to beliefs from New Age and Eastern religions. Instead of viewing Jesus as the Saviour, Deepak chooses to see Jesus as an enlightened master. He compares Karma to Jesus' idea of how you reap what you sow.

He begins his talk by first explaining what enlightenment means. It sounds great to hear that you could one day become more compassionate, manifest all your desires (the law of attraction), have freedom from fear and enjoy a blissful state of love. Could this also not be a result of becoming a Christian who becomes more compassionate, prays and has prayers answered (ask and ye shall receive), believes they are safe in God's hands and experiences the love of Christ?

Deepak Chopra is very convincing but I think he misses the opportunity to describe why Jesus came to earth in the first place. He also never gives God credit for creating us and tells a story about how he believes the stars created us so they could see themselves through our eyes. This contrasts with his more current view that he created himself. By reading his books it is interesting to note how his views change over time.

In this DVD you will learn about discontinuity, co-creation with God, Revelation and seven stages of consciousness. Deepak believes that "unity" consciousness is the highest state where you feel one with all.

What I liked about this DVD was how Deepak explained Jesus' teachings so they can be available to a larger audience. I think most Christians will however have problems believing that human beings can be omnipotent and omnipresent.

I'd suggest that if you are interested in how Deepak views Jesus that you also read the biblical accounts of Jesus' life. That is what I'm currently doing myself and it helps me to understand more about who the real Jesus was. He is definitely more than just an enlightened master, He is the Saviour of the world.

I purchased this DVD on Amazon, however it is the same programme shown on PBS
This DVD is based on the book "The Third Jesus: The Christ We Cannot Ignore"
It is illustrates Jesus and the Christian teachings in a different light
It is in keeping with the teachings of Spirituality and Divine Consciousness
I find it is truly inspirational and stimulating

Mr. Chopra so desperately wishes to experience "The Profound" I hope and pray he someday will.
