I just finished reading this book and it is a TERRIBLE book. I bought it for $1 and read the back, thinking it would be somewhat good and it was a complete waste of my time. I don't understand how this book was even published. And a DVD too? If you want a stupid pointless book/movie full of sex and nudity, look no further.

As I watched "The Night Buffalo" I wondered how it ever got to the screen. There is really nothing about it to like except for the frontal nudity of Diego Luna. Quite possibly this is the greatest disaster in Mexican cinema to date.
"The Night Buffalo" is the story of a schizophrenic man (Gabriel Gonzalez) who takes his own life after he discovers that his girlfriend (Liz Gallardo) cheats on him with another man (Diego Luna). There is a lot of promise in the film but something went wrong. What we get is a drama that goes nowhere with a lot of nudity and sex that is totally unnecessary.
There is no focus to the film and what could have made this film interesting, the schizophrenic's story, is pushed to the side. His character was not developed but then none of the other characters were developed either. We loved Diego Luna in "Milk" and "Y tu Mama Tambien" but here he is despicable and I found myself detesting him. Just the fact that he betrayed his best friend by sleeping with his sister is totally obnoxious. His friend was suicidal to begin with.
Parts of the story are excellent but the director has no idea of what to do with them. It seems that the nudity, and there is a lot of it, is there just as a way to get people to come see the movie. We never learn the motivations of the characters and the film has a pervasive sense of gloom. It is an explicit and disturbing film, grim in tone. What a pity--there is a great deal of promise here.
