"A New Solider In A Very Old War" ~ You Had Me At Nephilim
by Brian E. Erland (CA - USA)
Well it appears as though I liked 'The Devil's Tomb' a little more than most of the other reviewers. I guess I'm just an old sentimentalist, I mean who doesn't enjoy a storyline involving Nephilim, demonic possession and the doorway to Hell? I sure do.
On second thought that's about all it had to offer. The characterizations and dialogue was predictable and one-dimensional and the storyline somewhat uneven. The film also lacked the necessary energy and momentum required to carry the plot through to its eventual conclusion. There was an occasional moment here and there where it did succeed in creating an eerie, demonic atmosphere that was slightly reminiscent of 'Hellraiser' but that feeling didn't last long enough to keep the viewing audience interested.
I'm probably being a little generous giving it a -3 Star- rating but I can't help myself, I'm a sucker for the subject matter.

Non-stop Cliches!
by Steven Haskins (Iwakuni, Japan)
Truly a low point in the art of film making. I'm not a fan of Cuba Gooding but I'm saddened to see him in this piece of garbage. I'd like to think that he at least made a decent wage from this but given the overall cheapness of the film I don't see how they could have afforded to.
When discussing what makes it so bad I'd have to say the plot cliches are worse than the script or character cliches. The incredibly stupid actions of the military team members are an insult to the intelligence of all humans.
I give the film one star for Cuba who did a respectable job of keeping a straight face while delivering such obviously flawed lines. There is nothing he could have possibly done to pull this film out of the hell-hole or bottomless pit that it resides in. I made the mistake of not knowing this was a straight to DVD release. I saw it on the shelf and said it couldn't be too bad with both Cuba and the guy from Aliens 4 and City of Lost Children. I feel for them both.

I would give it negative stars if possible

This movie is so bad. I couldn't make it more than 40 minutes into it before I switched to Choke - MUCH better movie!

Negative One Star
by G. Teslovich
I knew within the first 90 seconds (near record) that this made for TV film was going to be a ff (fast forward) genre movie. The give-away - you ask? A script that is 90% pointless fake military jargon e.g. "clear" and lots and lots of swearing. It's obvious that the script writers, actors and director have a psychological issue with how they've spent their lives in Hollywood boutiques and are overcompensating by creating toughness the easiest way they know how - let's talk tough. Besides the totally, totally unbelievable tough guy/woman acting was the single day rental fee for a helicopter and some industrial warehouse basement to provide the obligatory concrete passages and steam piping. The story was nothing more creative than the time worn plot of the military hiding an alien or devil or whatever. Finally, the prosthetic makeup infected skin and gunshots were so juvenile dumb - yawn.

THIS WASN'T THAT BAD 7.25 OUT OF 10
by ACEMAN1 (Ripon, California)
Okay, so as a horror flick, this wasn't amazing, but it was a decent film despite being straight-to-DVD. For about twenty minutes I was left going "Oh God no" because it was stealing ideas from other films and for some reasons was evoking memories of the action/horror disaster Alone in the Dark (Unrated Director's Cut). Thankfully it managed to pull out of that. Although it seems like it steals too many ideas from Resident Evil (Special Edition), Doom (Full Screen), and Aliens, this was fairly entertaining and provided good doses of action.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT: When a research team goes missing (Resident Evil, Doom, Aliens) in the Middle East, a special team of soldiers (Again, the same previous films mentioned) lead by Captain Mack (Cuba Gooding Jr.) is sent to investigate, only to have one of their own team members go missing. As the team searches, they realize they are being stalked by creatures who can't die from being shot at and have a connection with an evil angel that was dug up at the sight and now the fate of the world rests in the team's hands. But the team has another problem to contend with; if they don't get out from underground it time, they'll get blown to hell.
MUSIC: The music in this film is fairly good and fits the mood of an action/horror flick. I really have nothing to pick at with this area.
ACTION: Although the films this one ripped off had better action scenes, this film still has entertaining shoot 'em up action and some good zombie/demon fights. This film also has nice touches of gore to go along with it as well. There were some parts in the film that I couldn't help but question. For example; When one of the team members finds the missing teammate, for some reason the two women start making out. I had a blank look on my face as I tried to figure out what was going on, then the missing teammate stabs the other woman and carves the skin off her back. Before that, the Asian chick (Who found the missing teammate) not only followed the creepy hallucination that tried to kill her once, she did it twice. Unfortunately, as you've probably noticed, this film has a loose and sloppily written plot that at times is incomprehensible.
ACTING: This area is half and half. Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ron Perlman are good actors, but the other cast members are a bit questionable in their acting abilities. Aside from Cuba Gooding Jr., Ron Perlman, and the guy who was killed by dogs in Resident Evil - Apocalypse (Special Edition), I didn't recognize anyone else. This area is mixed unfortunately.
OVERALL: Rental. This is a decent action/horror flick, but it could have been taken farther. The plot is a loose and sloppy mess and the actors could have better at their roles. But the action scenes, nice touches of gore, and decent special effects manages to keep this film afloat.
THE GOOD: Cool action scenes, plenty of gore, good music, and good special effects.
THE BAD: Rips off too many films, mixed bag acting, and a loose and sloppy plot.
