3/5 The Paul Simon Testamonial Concert

I think that this concert was absolutely nostalgic. Paul Simon has been a very dedicated singer-songwriter, and guitarist. He has also been dedicated to lots of worthy charities. Any gifted musician who has this much dedication, deserves to be honored with a special award for all his or her good work, and surrounded by family and friends. Paul is definitely one of them. As a fan, I absolutely adore him. I hope he continues to keep up all his good work.

I ordered TWO coppies of this DVD -- one as a gift. When my copy was defective (pixilation and stops and starts in program), I checked the "gift" copy. It, too was not playing properly. It is NOT my DVD player as several other discs played just fine. This was a wonderful program and I was so looking forward to re-living it and sharing the great performances with others. Now Shout Factory has not responded to my requests (via e-mail) to return/exchange these DVDs. HELP~!

I attended the event, and I've been waiting for something like this since! It's a great representation of the show - even including what I assumed would be an outtake when Stevie Wonder misses a cue. There were multiple takes of some of the songs at the live event because of some audio issues, and I wondered how well they could be edited into a seamless final product, but they pulled it off. I have even come to like a few of these interpretations of his songs better than the originals!

Could be better! No Paul Simon till the end of the concert. But, it get worse, the piano version of The Sounds of Silence... TERRIBLE!!!


5/5 Paul Simon And Friends: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song

Having seen a portion of this award presentation to Paul Simon on PBS, I knew I had to have the CD.

The CD is classic Paul Simon and watching him andother musicians who are his contemporaries perform his music has been equally pleasureable. The CD contains his most popular and well known compositions and performances, and for those of us who are consumate Paul Simon fans it's a treasure to own. I held a Paul Simon party at my house to which I invited those friends of mine who I know are P.S. enthusiasts, and after cocktails and snacks we sat to be entertained by our favorite American composer/performer. If you like Paul Simon's music, you will like owning this CD.
