The best metal band deliver the goods!
The problem with many on-the-road documentaries and live band footage is that unless you're a dedicated fan, what you're seeing or hearing isn't going to mean much to you, and also, once you've seen the concert/backstage footage, how likel...

Best live Iron Maiden recording released since Beast Over Hammersmith
by Terrence J. Reardon (Lake Worth (a west Palm Beach suburb), FL)
Iron Maiden's latest release is the soundtrack to their concert documentary Flight 666 which came out in June, 2009 and is a must for all fains of Iron Maiden.
Some people complain about Iron Maiden releasing "yet another live album" in this last decade but it was in concert where Maiden's true colors are shown. Also some claim this is a bad re-do of Live After Death but this is not a re-make of that album. In fact, in Febuary 2008, Iron Maiden (which for the last decade consisted of Bruce Dickinson on vocals; guitarists Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers; bass player Steve Harris and drummer Nicko McBrain) began work on a documentary about the band Iron Maiden's most adventurous tour taken to date known as "The Somewhere Back in Time World Tour" which saw the group resurrect its stage set from 1984/85's World Slavery Tour and perform much of the tunes from that period (sans "Flight of Icarus", "Running Free" and "Sanctuary" and a few others) plus some tracks from Somewhere in Time, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and Fear of the Dark. The documentary woud be called Flight 666 and released into theaters for one night only and released on DVD and blu-ray plus became a VH1 Classic staple. Its soundtrack was released as a 2 CD/3 LP set all have the recorded versions of the songs (plus 2) that made it into the movie.
We begin things with "Churchill's Speech" which segues into a killer performance of "Aces High" recorded in Mumbai, India. Bruce's vocals here trump either the original or the live version on 1985's Live After Death. Next is a stellar "Two Minutes to Midnight" recorded in Melbourne, Australia. A stellar version! Next is possibly the best version of "Revelations" ever recorded (only rivaled by the version on Live After Death). This came from the group's show in Sydney, Australia. Janick's take on Adrian's solo is not bad. Next is "The Trooper" recorded in Tokyo, Japan. Nicko's drumming is stellar and the triple guitar attack make this version my second favorite after Live in Rio. Next is a stellar live version of "Wasted Years" recorded in Monterrey, Mexico. This third official live recording of the tune makes its debut on an Iron Maiden live album (the first from 1988 was on the video Maiden England and the second was a flip side). Now a stellar version of "The Number of Beast" recorded at The L.A. Forum in Los Angeles, CA (where the first double live Maiden album Live After Death was mostly recorded at). Dickinson's voice I swear gets better as he gets older and the dual leads of Murray and Smith just kick *ss. Next is "Can I Play With Madness" recorded in Mexico City, Mexico. Out of the five live versions of this track I heard, this is tied with the version from the Maiden England 1988 concert film IMHO! We close the first CD with a stellar live version of my all time favorite Maiden epic "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" recorded ath the Izod Center in New Jersey. This version of this track is worth this CD and/or LP alone!
Disc two begins with the live version of "Powerslave" recorded in Alajuela, Costa Rica. This rivals the version recorded on Live After Death. Next is the best live version of "Heaven Can Wait" ever recorded from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Superb version of this classic track. Next is "Run to the Hills" recorded live in Bogota, Colombia. This version has to rank as one of the best live versions of this track Maiden recorded (only the versions on Live After Death and Beast Over Hammersmith give it a run for the money). Next is "Fear of the Dark" recorded in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This rendition is one of the best the group did and rivals the version on Rock in Rio IMHO. We close the show with the band's theme song "Iron Maiden" recorded in Santiago, Chile. This live version is one of the best I heard (my favorite was still Dortmund 1983 when Eddie (the band's mascot) got his "just desserts")! The encores begin with "Moonchild" recorded in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This version is the best of the two officially recorded. Next is my favorite live version of "The Clairvoyant" recorded in Curitiba, Brazil. This great track just burns. We close preceedings with the live version of "Hallowed Be Thy Name" recorded at The Air Canada Center in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This version just blows the roof off the building!
Iron Maiden's Flight 666 is a stellar live album. I ranked the live recordings with Live After Death and Rock in Rio tied for first, Beast Over Hammersmith (second), Flight 666 and Maiden England 1988 (third), Death On the Road (fourth), A Real Dead One (fifth), A Real Live One (sixth) and last was Live in Donnington 1992. If one needs to have any live Maiden album, get this one (along with Rio and Live After Death).
Highly recommended!

WORST LIVE RECORDING-EVER
by Andrew L. Valente
I'm betting that the recording was done by chimps with not much more than blank tapes and the record button on a ghetto blaster. The tracks sound like they were recorded using crowd-mics only. There was no direct-source-output recorded on it.
These songs all sound hurried, and give little to no justice to the studio-recorded tracks.
I love Maiden, always have, and I can't believe that they actually released this TOTALLY sub-par "work".

Flight 666- Iron Maiden
by J. Palo (USA)
If you're an Iron Maiden fan, you'll love this CD. The band sounds great. It's also a great value considering it's a 2-disc CD.

Flight 666 CD
by Dr. Feelgood (USA)
I thought the sound could have been better, but other than that it was still a good concert, captured live, on two CD's. Iron Maiden performing from various dates on the tour, of some of their best material. Also available on DVD.
