Naruto: Shippuden, Vol. 2 Summary Naruto and Sakura have succeeded in bringing down Kakashi in the survival challenge using an unconventional technique! Tsunade then assigns them to a three-man squad led by Kakashi, who tells them that they are now his equals. Meanwhile, Gaara is facing his greatest challenge as Kazekage--to save the Sand Village from Deidara of the Akatsuki. Gaara has the power to protect his village, but will he

Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 10/27/2009 Run Time: 100 Minutes

Director Hayato Date deftly juggles interlocking story lines, flashbacks, action sequences, and broad comedy as the hit adventure-fantasy Naruto Shippuden continues. Gaara, the leader of the Village Hidden in the Sand, battles Deidara, who fights with enchanted paper and clay. Their spectacular duel reveals how completely Naruto transformed an icy assassin into an admirable leader: Gaara allows himself to be captured to protect the people of his village. But help is on the way: Naruto and Sakura have joined their former teacher, Kakashi-sensei, to form a new ninja team in the allied Hidden Leaf Village. Naruto Shippuden boasts more elaborate computer-animated effects than Naruto, enabling Date to pump up the action when Gaara fights with clouds of magical sand and when Sand Village lieutenant Kankura duels the scorpionlike Sasori using elaborate puppets. But amid the crises, there's still time for Naruto to slurp down ramen and act like the knucklehead audiences know and love. While Naruto Shippuden clearly draws a lot of viewers from the millions of Naruto fans, it's exciting and entertaining enough to win viewers who don't know the original series. (Rated T+ Older Teen, but suitable for ages 12 and older: violence, minor toilet humor) --Charles Solomon
