Great movie for kids and family!
by Christie Smith (Henryville, Indiana United States)
This movie is really great. We bought it for our sons after trying to watch the horrible transformers 2 movie (never again). Unlike that movie, this is a fairly wholesome movie, there is some killing and a few cuss words, but all in all it just action packed fun. It kept my sons attention and explained some things about Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes (like why he never talks & how they are related). If your looking for a father-son movie that has a lot of action yet is wholesome, this is it..... I can't believe the ratings on this are not better.

It's a kids movie, why so serious about it?
by Bone (Florida)
My soon to be 7 boy loved it on the big screen and rates it as his "best movie ever", at least until he saw Astro Boy a few weeks ago - twice. We have hundreds of family fodder films, so his viewing experience isn't exactly limited. When a kid loves something so much, how can it not be top rated?
As an old fart of a parent, it's reasonable as generic action flicks go. Probably on par with the likes of the Fantastic Four offerings. A few gags and reasonable action, nothing to get excited about really, but hardly one star fodder. I guess if you're a prepubescent teen or older, you'd be better of saving your pennies for other stuff unless you're an action fan nut, but a boy under 10 will probably love it.
My son keeps nagging me about when the follow up is coming out. He doesn't ask that very often.

A start
by Bob Humbug
Aside from the characters Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes, who were cool and right on target, I have real concerns about whether anyone who worked on this movie ever played with GI Joe guys at all. I guess there were a few off and on moments for Duke and Cobra and crew, but not many. I'm pretty sure if the rest of this movie was worked on by anyone who owned GI Joes, they were big sissies who also owned Barbie dolls and had the two sets playing house together. Still, if they make another movie, I'll have to watch it, I suppose. After all, it did take the X-Men movie people all the way up to the Wolverine: Origins to get it right.
So, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, yes. Duke, ok. Everybody else: thbbbt. Next time I want to see tons of old faves like Beach Head and Leatherneck and stuff, and way less 'character development.' I've already dreamed up tons of battles with these guys, and if they start acting more like real people it'll ruin all of them.

It is only entertainment dont take it seriously. The movie delivers good action and special effects. I truly recommend it.

JUST SIT BACK - PRESS "PLAY"-ENJOY THE MAYHEM!!
by Noah Young (Kansas City, Missouri)
I came to this movie totally uninformed about G.I.Joe, the team, the action figure, etc. I rented this flick for a buck and had NO EXPECTATIONS! i simply desired to be (somewhat mindlessly) entertained by what i hoped was a real action movie. This flick delivered on that level WAAAY beyond expectations!!!
Not only did i get filled in on the back story and individual characters in concise mini-flashbacks, but the entire plot and acting elements were also a bit above average for what the "average" movie watcher might hope for. By the way, the Editing was AWESOME!!! the cuts were supersmooth and definitely helped maintain the frenetic pulse of the movie!!! most of the time, folks don't take editing into consideration, but when you see how seamlessly the action scenes flow, one to the other, one can absolutely appreciate the editing!!
Personally, i'd have been happy to have paid rental price some of the video stores charge ($3.00-5.00)for this flick. The female leads (Sienna Miller and Rachel Nichols) are stunning and the guys do a bang-up job.
Overall, if action and mayhem are what the doctor ordered, with a simple but thorough plot, this flick is for you. Does anyone know if a sequel is planned?
You won't go wrong renting this one.
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Summary
An Elite Military Unit Comprised Of Special Operatives Known As G.i. Joe, Operating Out Of The Pit, Takes On An Evil Organization Led By A Notorious Arms Dealer.
The Rise of Cobra
is not your grandfather's G.I. Joe. It's more like C.G.I. Joe with explosive special-effects action sequences that provide the film with a surplus of "Boom Boom Pow" (to quote the Black Eyed Peas song that drives the end credits). This blast from the summer past is very much like the metal-munching nano-mite missiles a (literally) mad Doctor (Joseph Gordon-Levitt cashing in some of his indie cred) and McCullen, a Scottish weapons dealer (Christopher Eccleston), threaten to unleash upon the world. It never stops. Ever. The original G.I. Joe action figure was an all-American hero. These Joes are--all together now--"the best of the best," an elite multi-national squad. Two soldiers, Duke (a buff Channing Tatum), an "on the ground, in the fight" kind of guy, and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans), his wisecracking best friend, are rescued by the Joes after they are ambushed while transporting the missiles. These are no ordinary Joes. Snake-Eyes (Ray Park) is a silent ninja, Stella (Rachel Nichols) a bodacious brainiac, Heavy Duty (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) the imposing weapons specialist, and Breaker (Said Taghamaoui) the techie. They are led by gruff Gen. Hawk (Dennis Quaid), who barks out lines like, "When all else fails, we don't," with polish. Duke and Ripcord are recruited to join the classified unit after Duke discovers that Ana (Sienna Miller), his former fiancée, is in cahoots with McCullen and now sports the sinister moniker the Baroness, not to mention killer cleavage-enhancing latex outfits. This being the first in a budding franchise, there is much backstory to cover. Flashbacks date back to 1641! But the order of the day is underground military command centers, underwater evil lairs, gleaming high-tech weaponry, breakneck chases, and cool gadgets, such as a speed-accelerating hydraulic suit. It's enough to make you want to dust off your original Hasbro action figures or, the studio no doubt hopes, buy the new ones.
