Review - Gojira (1954)
Known to most as Godzilla, a giant dinosaur-like creature is brought to life through nuclear testing and destroys Tokyo, Japan. The very first in a still on-going series is Gojira.
Judging by the sorts of movies America was making a...

BAD STORY, GREAT DIGITAL SOUND !!!!
by Abdullah-hassan (kuwait city)
for the story , they mess with the Japanese legendary monster , different shape , at least they kept the same roar fx , as for the sound quality , this movie was made for the digital theater systems , now on blu ray yes the sound will be great , the dvd contains DTS system , now with true HD it may look better for a popcorn movie .

Godzilla at a different view
by Gift Card
For the Godzilla fans of yesterday need to get over the fact that this one didnt look like a guy in a rubber suit. I have read the 1 star ratings by fans on how they were upset that Godzilla was on the run he didnt fight back. If you look at any of the Godzilla films it took the story line in a whole new perspective the old never had to go through that yeah the old Godzilla had a kid just another guy in a lazy outfit. Now Godzilla looks like an actual monster with realistic attribute as a lizard being A sexual and reproducing on its own. Godzilla was looking for a place for the babies which is understandable why at the begining he kept running. But when they killed the kids he went on a rampage and breathed fire like most of you say he didnt.
This Godzilla was more agile, looked realistic, and was more practical for this time period. And if you asked why manhattan where else is he going to hide out with so much protection in Jersey. Come on people in terms of story line it was a great twists from fighting Godzilla to fending off the kids turning back to a destructive Godzilla. I like to see you guys make a Godzilla film and see if people like it.

Great giant monster movie, but not Godzilla
by Robert Tipton (Aviano, Itlay)
I wish I could give this two ratings, so here it is:
How do you rate this item (As a Godzilla movie)? *
How do you rate this item (As a giant monster movie)? ****
This flick is entertaining, has great SPFX, and acceptable acting. The problem? The title of this movie is GODZILLA. We all know this was Emmerich and Devlin's attempt to give us an American Godzilla movie, but they fell way short of that goal. If you want to see our big Ape-Whale in true form, go get Gojira, Godzilla 1985, vs. Biollante, or any of the 90's Godzilla movies. Even Godzilla Final Wars is top-notch Kaiju fare. If you're expecting a Godzilla movie, avoid this like the plague...

Not Godzilla
by Brian H. Ramsey (Port Hueneme, CA United States)
Godzilla is popular all over the world. But this is not Godzilla. This is Hollywood's attempt at making a movie in a franchise they didn't understand. As a dinosaur movie, it is a big budget movie with a low b plot, but might be acceptable if they didn't claim it was Godzilla. If you either don't like the original Godzilla or have never seen it, you might enjoy this movie. But if you know the real Godzilla, this movie can make you wince whenever you even see the cover art. It is not faithful to the original.
The original Japanese Godzilla was a force of nature that was unstoppable and outside man's power, unless unthinkably terrible means were used to end that force of nature. Means so terrible that the creator must destroy himself so that others less wise would not destroy the world using them. Later, Godzilla transformed into a force of nature humans struggled against but failed, and were left wondering if they should have ever tried fighting it in the first place. Godzilla is an earthquake, a volcano and a typhoon; something you simply can't defeat no matter how powerful you think you are.
This Godzilla is a stupid animal that man overcomes through intellect. It reminds me of the 1950's Hollywood monster movies where radiation creates an army of giant insects which end up being wiped out by human power. That was b material back then, and it is low b material now.
Godzilla [Blu-ray] Summary
Studio: Sony Pictures Home Ent Release Date: 11/03/2009 Run Time: 139 Minutes Rating: Pg13
As "gigantic monster reptile attacks New York" movies go, you've got to admit that
Godzilla
delivers the goods, although its critical drubbing and box-office disappointment were arguably deserved. It's a shameless, uninspired crowd pleaser that's content to serve up familiar action with the advantage of really fantastic special effects, and if you expect nothing more you'll be one among millions of satisfied customers. There's really no other way to approach it--you just have to accept the fact that
Independence Day
creators Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin are unapologetic plagiarists, incapable of anything more than mindless spectacle that can play in any cinema in the world without dubbing or subtitles. The whole movie plays out like a series of highlights stolen from previous blockbusters of the 1990s; it's little more than a rehash of the
Jurassic Park
movies. The derivative script is so trivial that it's unworthy of comment, apart from a few choice laughs and the casting of Michael Lerner as New York's mayor, whose name is Ebert and who closely resembles a certain well-known movie critic. Perhaps that's a clever hint that this movie's essentially critic-proof. It's stupid but it's fun, and for most audiences that's a fitting definition of mainstream Hollywood entertainment.
