Very true to the book and the military experience.
by Fish (FL, USA)
This is a great mini-series. It is VERY true to the excellent book and the portrayal of a small group of military men is very accurate. I am and OIF/OEF vet and also took part in Operation Restore Democracy. Don't believe the Bush-Bots. This is well worth a watch.

Invasion Vet on Invasion Show
by P. Graham
Convenient product placement the main description points out up top when the pizza comes. Well yes it is, but it is also Pizza Hut that we did in fact get before the invasion. J.Lo's death rumor? Yes, it was a big concern for us before the invasion. Swearing and machismo? Its a bunch of young men away from home in a foreign war-torn land, you'll get that from time to time. This series brought back memories of the invasion I'd even forgotten over time. It shows how people can hate groups of people, but still be close as hell to those types of people because they are your fellow Marines. It shows the confusion of war, the lack of leadership and a plan we often saw, and the vacuum left behind after us and that swallowed us as well. I thought it was great, maybe someone who doesnt understand the lingo, the nitty gritty military details, or the background wouldnt, but I loved it.

I rented disc 1 of season 1. I finished watching only 2 parts out of 3 because they're so boring.

Generation of Political correctness
by Eric Reynaga
Once again we see how every day that goes by we see how every generation becomes more ignorant, more out spoken about a lot of nothings they know not. Just because they read it in the news paper or watch it on TV or online, it must be true right?
I come from a long line of Marines from me joining after high school to my father being in Vietnam to my uncles in Korea and WWII.
Yes this series has a lot of truths, the vulgarity, profanity the racism, the over cellos Coos, combat senerios, to the rules of engagement.
From how Iraqis are welcoming you with open arms to then trying to kill you when your not looking.
As a Marine in my opinion this series has a lot of Anti-War, Anti-Bush BS! You would think with the internet people would actually educate themselves, that's how Obama got elected!
This is War , war is dirty and war is nasty, but this series make us Marines look like a bunch of un organized morons.
We as Marines are trained to kill, you can call it brain washing from boot camp but that's how it is.
Yes we do have a human side also. No one should be allowed to make movies or write books based on what they think war is, specially if they have never served and actually gone to war!!
This series is garbage! If your a part of the ignorant generation this series will fit you just fine..

Generation Kill on Blu-Ray
by C. Ignacio (Oceanside, CA USA)
My husband and I really enjoyed the 7 part series. It was really hilarious, and captivating. It truly showed that Marines are just day to day people, with very interesting jobs. My husband is an active duty Gunnery Sergeant in the Marines. He thought it was great the movie implemented many of the acronyms & terms the Marines use. He had to explain a few of them to me. We've recommended the series to many of our friends, especially our friends who don't know anything about the military. It was nice having seen it on Blu-ray, there are a lot of great scenes, and the special features are awesome.
Generation Kill [Blu-ray] Summary
Based on the national best-selling book by Evan Wright, Generation Kill is an authentic and vividly detailed 7 part HBO mini-series event that presents a uniquely epic and intimate portrait of the first 40 days of the Iraq war from the perspective of the Marines of the First Recon Battalion ? a new breed of American soldiers. The mini-series tells the story of these young Marines physical and emoti
Studio: Hbo Home Video Release Date: 06/16/2009 Run Time: 420 Minutes Rating: Nr
There's macho, there's military macho, and then there's the over-the-top machismo of the Marines. In the HBO miniseries
Generation Kill
, one character--a Marine--describes his branch of the military as "America's pitbull." The seven episodes of
Generation Kill
follow a battalion of Marines as they lead the invasion of Iraq, ultimately rolling into Baghdad itself by the last show. The language is dense with obscenities and military jargon, but it's surprisingly easy to follow, even if you don't study the glossary that comes in a booklet with the box set. What isn't so easy to distinguish are the characters themselves, except by surface details: This guy has a hoarse voice, this guy is an embedded journalist (a stand-in for Evan Wright, the
Rolling Stone
reporter who wrote the book the series is based on), this guy is a white supremacist, this guy has a mustache, this guy is an officer obsessed with the other guy's mustache. The problem is that people are ultimately defined by what they do, and soldiers in war are all doing pretty much the same thing: Shooting, swearing, and sitting around as they wait to shoot and swear some more. But
Generation Kill
isn't aiming for personal identification; the creators of the series (David Simon and Ed Burns, producers of the critically-adored
The Wire
) aim to immerse the viewer in the texture of the experience--which, in this case, is mostly chaos and confusion. Sandstorms are as great a threat as mortar fire; pizza trucks arrive out of nowhere on the brink of a mission (conveniently providing a bit of product placement); and the rules of engagement keep changing as the goals of the higher-ups grow increasing out-of-synch with the war on the ground.
Generation Kill
captures the frustration and increasing cynicism of the grunt troops with vivid skill, as their simplistic morality--kill the bad guys!--grows more and more hollow. Extras include some brief interviews with real Marines; the usual making-of documentary, mildly interesting but justly deleted scenes, and audio commentaries; and entertaining video diaries from Eric Ladin, the actor who plays the white supremacist.
