Terra
by Cindy K. (Houston, Texas)
I was afraid that this movie was another 'green' movie, pushing a philosophy at kids who are just wanting to be entertained. My son loves "Star Wars, The Clone Wars" and thought this would be similar, but different. My husband and I were not excited about the story when it began but the story was compelling and entertaining, with unexpected twists and turns. Just when you think it is political, it takes a turn and the players aren't the usual politicians. Well done.

great film
by Jose E. Vasquez (pax et bonum)
a excellent film, for the family and children especially, as it shows that respect and the comprencion is better than war, excellent.

Great Scifi movie even better on bluray
by J. Williams (Ga, USA)
I have to say I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie. I really like the plot that so mirrors concerns about how we are slowly killing our planet. This theme is common in anime so for this animated movie to use it is not unusual. I saw a copy of this before I bought it and getting it on bluray was a no-brainer. I was able to notice the difference you usually see (atleast in my opinion) when watching a movie you have seen on lesser quality formats. Check this out if you like this genre of animated film.

Sci-fi with an interesting twist...great animation and imaginarium..
by Oscar Murga (Central America)
For once and for all humans are not best species in the universe...interesting and absorbing which is wonderful for an animated movie...completely recommendable...Very good quality animation and sound...enjoyable at the most.

Cute cartoon - well designed and constant story
by bernie (Arlington, Texas)
This is a well rounded story of a close encounter. The story is not unique but the characters and interactions are unique.
Mala (voice -Evan Rachel Wood) a resident of the superficially peaceful planet of Tarra encounters a downed human pilot Jim Stanton (voice-Luke Wilson) and with the help a robotic buddy Giddy (voice-David Cross) try to find an alternative to all or nothing war.
The film is great in the effect that it is not just people with white hats fighting people in black hats. The animation does not try to be anymore than animation. However I only saw the Blu-ray version and not the 3D version.
One of the fun things is to try to figure out some of the more popular voices as the different characters appear.
Watching the extras on the DVD makes me thing that someday there will be a 3 hour version. The voice over reminds us that this fill was made years before there was a Bush vs. Obama; so do not read too much into the characters. Several other places in the story they try to not be too sensitive to the movie audience. Jim cannot do a kamikaze because it would look too much like 911.
I was interested in the story enough to take part and kibitz rather than just observe. However there was nothing spectacular beyond entertainment.

Battle for Terra [Blu-ray] Summary
BATTLE FOR TERRA: BLU-RAY (BLU-RAY DISC)
When The Peaceful Inhabitants Of The Beautiful Planet Terra Come Under Attack From The Last Surviving Members Of Humanity Adrift In An Aging Spaceship, The Stage Is Set For An All-out War Between The Two Species For Control Of The Planet. But Will An Unlikely Friendship Between A Rebellious Young Terrian (voiced By Evan Rachel Wood) And An Injured Human Pilot (luke Wilson) Somehow Convince Their Leaders That War Is Not The Answer?
Earthlings are the bad guys in this animated saga, which was released to theaters in 3-D. And the good guys? That would be the Terrans, big-eyed little tadpole creatures whose planet is about to be invaded by human beings in search of a permanent living space--and hey, if the atmosphere of this alien planet isn't exactly fit for humans, the visitors can always blast the place with an oxygen-producing terra-forming machine that will make it habitable. The only collateral damage is that the natives will be killed off. Huh? As you can see, the allegorical undertones here are, well, overtones, all of which might seem less heavy-handed if the story were absorbing and the characters were compelling, but director Aristomenis Tsirbas concentrates on the environmental message and the non-show-offy 3D design. We mostly follow a Terran (voiced by Evan Rachel Wood) who comes upon a lone astronaut (Luke Wilson), much to the confusion of her Terran quasi-boyfriend (Justin Long). In the absence of a lot of plot excitement, kids might take some enjoyment in the nerdy declarations of a cute robot (David Cross). Can the brutal intentions of the invading general (Brian Cox) be stopped in time to save Terra? Will you still be awake to learn the answer?
