This is a great season I think.
I'm always disappointed that there aren't more commentaries, or behind the scenes special features.
But... what can you do?

I don't think this season was a step-back at all. They actually progressed the storyline quite a bit during the 5th season and introduced one character, in particular, who is awesome and needs to be incorporated in the 6th season as well. It was as funny as ever! I hope this show isn't even half way done!

While it is possibly true that The Office will never again reach the heights of excellence seen in seasons two and three, it remains the best sitcom on television. In the entire run of the series there is only one instance where a joke was so bad it had me thinking, "What the hell were they thinking?!" That being the season four episode in which Michael drove into a pond because his GPS told him to take the next right. I'll always respect the producers for actually allowing the characters' lives some progression. Especially in the case of Pam and Jim. Hollywood just loves jamming never ending "will they, won't they" stories down out throats. How nice to see characters in a sitcom acting like real human beings. I'm looking forward to revisiting these episodes prior to the season six premier on 9/17/09.

5/5 Quite a comeback after Season 4...

Season 4, in my opinon, was definitely the weakest of the bunch. I don't really include Season 1, just because it was so short, the characters were barely developed, and the storyline shared many similarities to the UK office...

With that being said, Season 5 was such a strong a solid comeback. After watching the opening weight loss episode, and seeing Kelly faint on the scale, I knew I was in for something special this year. Season 4 had some great highlights, but I didn't like the fact that most of the episodes were made to fit an hour slot. It got draaaaawwwwwn out, and it lost its "joke-after-joke-after-joke" momentum. I still love it (especially the Dinner Party!), and love all Office seasons, but Season 5 was just great, and there were so many solid episodes this round I can't wait to add them to my collection.

This makes me wonder however... where the show can go from here and where Season 6 is going to start off. I won't plaster spoilers all over this review, but I do think the show is nearing the "Jumping the Shark" territory... I hope it never happens, as some of the characters have changed tremendously over the years... But where Season 5 left off, has ultimately destroyed a lot of shows in the past by bringing in a baby... Will Pam and Jim finally get married? Will it be as disastrous as Phyllis's wedding? What the heck is Ryan going to be up to?! Will Miachel ever find true love/get back with Holly? Will Dwight and Angela finally get back together???

If you haven't seen all the episodes, for any of the Seasons (season 1 excluded IMO) buy them now. This show is truly worth the money, and if you have a Blu-Ray player, of course get the Blu-Ray! It's only a few dollars more!
