Review - G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009)
Ladies and gentlemen, THIS is how you adapt a toy line. Bratz? Transformers? Horrible movies alike. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, however, doesn't just get it right, but rather they excel at something no one thought was possible: a really a...

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Review
I have a similar story with G.I. Joe as to Transformers, I was a huge fan of the toys as a kid but barely even knew the TV show existed at the time since I didn't watch much TV when I was a kid until I was maybe 13 give or take. Now the mo...

Horrible
In a summer of awful blockbusters and stupid popcorn films that make you feel like your IQ has dropped sharply after you're done watching it, this one stands alone as the worst one of the summer. So if you can avoid it, do so. Channing Tat...

G.I. Blows
Ok. If you loved the cartoon don't see this movie. The acting is awful (sans Snakes eyes and Storm Shadow), the comedic relief (Marlon Wayans) is not funny at all, and the special effects are horrible. If you are new to G.I. Joe i.e. under...

Why?
This movie destroyed my childhood memories. I was (and I guess still am) a huge Joe fan, but this film was not good. First of all, what's with the black leather suits. X-Men did this and it didn't work. Part of what made G.I. Joe great...

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Quick Review
Look, this wasn't one of the greatest movies of all time. But if your looking for a fast moving, action packed, special effects extravaganza, this is your movie. Just think "a cartoon that comes to life."

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Quick Review
Serves it's purpose, but doesn't offer much else. Typical summer action movie in every way. Would've been a lot cooler if I was 10.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Quick Review
Full of action, great effects, poor plot and character development, 2 hour movie felt like a 3 hour movie, I just wanted it to be over.

Entertaining
by Superheroes fan
I had low expectations of the film after hearing some of the many disappointments. But to my surprise, I found it very entertaining. It was a fun and had great martial arts sequences, good action scenes and a nice sense of humor to it. The story line for an action flick kept me attentive as well. The plot moved along well and didn't feel like there were any slow moments. I wasn't comparing it too hard to the original cartoon because it's a different time now and artists can have some creative liberty. It was still fun to see some of the old familiar characters. Great job with Snake Eyes. Overall, good entertainment.

The Movie was an explosion of action and special effects! But......
by Tim Randles (Glendale Arizona)
Yesterday, I received my 2 disc edition of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and I looked over the sleeve and it looked nice and got me all excited, reminded me of the G.I. Joe days of when I was a kid watching the cartoon! Then, I later last night put the second disc in to check out the extras! HA that was a joke! The only extras on this 2 disc is the making of the movie, and the special effects behind the scenes thing. Now granted those were cool, but the only real reason for the second disc is for the digital copy! I honestly think this movie is not worth [...] at all, maybe 16.99! Big deal you get the digital copy! How many of us out there really use the digital copy? Where was the deleted and alternate scenes? Is it really coming to the point where things are going to Blu Ray and not to regular dvd which their are a heck of a lot more dvd player owners then blu ray! I say if you are looking at this review on deciding whether to purchase the 2 disc, wait till it goes cheaper and get it! Don't spend over 10 bucks for it! Thanks for your time I hope this helps!

Surprisingly Good!
by B. Smith (Denver)
I was skeptical. I really despised Transformers, and while this looked better, I was afraid I'd be equally disgusted. However, I was SO wrong! There was a great mix of action and drama and humor. Like any movie, it had its flaws (and lack of any realism). Unlike most, this movie kept my attention throughout! After it was over, I immediately went back to the action scenes and watched them again. Great film!

GI Joe goes high-tech with great special effects
by Jim Gateley (Sunnyvale, CA)
4 of 5 stars for the action movie G.I. Joe. OK, so I've lost touch with some of the new things... When you say GI Joe to me, I think of the action toy GI Joe with his circa WWII Jeep and uniform. I seem to have slept thru all of the various modernizations of GI Joe including the comic book, cartoon movies and newer toys. So, going into this movie, I had no expectatoins of what it would be. So, I've learned that the action toy has morphed into an elite military unit with sci-fi special weapons and tools. Only the elite become GI Joe's (men and women) who work out of "The Pit". This movie was very well made. Action from the first minutes to introduce the team during a firefight to protect a truck convoy. Next we find the hero of protecting that convoy is taken to the Pit and introduced to the team; after traning he becomes a GI Joe. The bulk of the movie was focused on the recovery of the item taken from that truck convoy and learning who was behnd the plot. Some good twists and unexpected things. Great action, wow sets and special effects that were seamless, the characters were a bit flat and 2-D hence the 4 stars. Oh, did I mention great action (yes, I did). This is a fun movie to watch and is worth a couple of bags of popcorn to enjoy. I do recommnd it. The blu-ray had sufficient behind-the-scenes contents on a second disk in the set, however, that disk and materials were on SD on a DVD; too bad, no HD extra contents. I do recommend this movie.
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (Two-Disc Edition + Digital Copy) [Blu-ray] Summary
Paramount G.i. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra (blu-ray)from The Egyptian Desert To Deep Below The Polar Ice Caps, The Elite G.i. Joe Team Uses The Latest In Next-generation Spy And Military Equipment To Fight The Corrupt Arms Dealer Destro And The Growing Threat Of The Mysterious Cobra Organization To Prevent Them From Plunging The World Into Chaos.
The Rise of Cobra
is not your grandfather's G.I. Joe. It's more like C.G.I. Joe with explosive special-effects action sequences that provide the film with a surplus of "Boom Boom Pow" (to quote the Black Eyed Peas song that drives the end credits). This blast from the summer past is very much like the metal-munching nano-mite missiles a (literally) mad Doctor (Joseph Gordon-Levitt cashing in some of his indie cred) and McCullen, a Scottish weapons dealer (Christopher Eccleston), threaten to unleash upon the world. It never stops. Ever. The original G.I. Joe action figure was an all-American hero. These Joes are--all together now--"the best of the best," an elite multi-national squad. Two soldiers, Duke (a buff Channing Tatum), an "on the ground, in the fight" kind of guy, and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans), his wisecracking best friend, are rescued by the Joes after they are ambushed while transporting the missiles. These are no ordinary Joes. Snake-Eyes (Ray Park) is a silent ninja, Stella (Rachel Nichols) a bodacious brainiac, Heavy Duty (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) the imposing weapons specialist, and Breaker (Said Taghamaoui) the techie. They are led by gruff Gen. Hawk (Dennis Quaid), who barks out lines like, "When all else fails, we don't," with polish. Duke and Ripcord are recruited to join the classified unit after Duke discovers that Ana (Sienna Miller), his former fiancée, is in cahoots with McCullen and now sports the sinister moniker the Baroness, not to mention killer cleavage-enhancing latex outfits. This being the first in a budding franchise, there is much backstory to cover. Flashbacks date back to 1641! But the order of the day is underground military command centers, underwater evil lairs, gleaming high-tech weaponry, breakneck chases, and cool gadgets, such as a speed-accelerating hydraulic suit. It's enough to make you want to dust off your original Hasbro action figures or, the studio no doubt hopes, buy the new ones.
