Pink Floyd: Syd Barrett, David Gilmour (vocals, guitar); Roger Waters (vocals, bass); Richard Wright (keyboards); Nick Mason (drums). This is Pink Floyd's second album, and a major transition for them. After completing only one song, "Jugband Blues," founding member Syd Barrett left the group. He was replaced by his friend Dave Gilmour, who completed the line-up that would produce the band's most successful recordings. Hearing this played live in 1967 must have been quite an experience. Nobody was doing music like this, quite like this; although there were a few purple tangerine chocolate bicycle machines around. Part of the affection that this album still holds is nostalgic; the other part is the audience were as out of it as the band were. The Floyd have since stretched recording technique to perfection and this recording now sounds lame in terms of production. The songs, however, still maintain great character of times past; "Remember A Day" still provokes a hum and "Set The Controls" evokes those dodgy light shows.
