Includes liner notes by Don Ovens. One of the best of the many Roy Acuff compilations available, Curb's BEST OF ROY ACUFF features excellently remastered sound and a fantastic, well-sequenced selection that ranges from the shy, genial Tennessean's first country hit, 1938's "Wabash Cannonball," to sprightly versions of country standards like Hank Williams' "Jambalaya" and Bill Monroe's bluegrass classic "Blue Moon of Kentucky." Roy Acuff was not known as The King of Country Music for nothing. Besides his mournful and extremely influential high lonesome singing voice and underappreciated skills as a fiddler, Acuff was a powerful man in Nashville's music industry as owner of the enormous Acuff-Rose music publishing company. But it was for his music, not his business acumen, that Roy Acuff is cherished among fans of traditional country music. Country doesn't get any better than this.
