The cd album is better but the dvd was really the rarest live footage from iced earth. These guys made an awesome 3 hour show with pure flawless heavy thrash metal for their fans in athens. If your looking for their alive in athens album I would recommend their 3 cd combo instead, I mean the dvd is great too but I think the cd's would be better and I decided to buy this DVD from my local best buy since they didn't have it on CD.

Stay heavy!

This is one of the best DVD's I have ever seen. The sound qualty is awsome. ICED EARTH rules. I hope they continue for years to come.I love the bonus back stage footage and scenes from around Athens. Well worth the money.Paul Shaffer is a musical guinness. Thank you for the great music.


4/5 Not the entire Alive in Athens album

Iced Earth would normally get 5 stars, but they lose one today because the show finale "Iced Earth" was completely absent from the DVD. I seem to be cursed by a spirit that doesn't want me to see that song performed live. The band blew up their equipment in Atlanta (ProgPower USA in 2008) so badly it stopped the show in the middle of that song, and now the Alive in Athens DVD has taken that away from me.

With the exception of that one disappointment, it's a top notch item--especially if you're looking for live performances of Iced Earth.

I got into IE when I discovered the cd version of this DVD. I was hooked instantly. When I got the DVD I was not disappointed at all. I have been in several concerts in Athens Greece and the crowds are the best metal fans.
Great production in every way. I haven't seen many bands play 2.5 hr sets and perform so well. This is the best IE lineup in my opinion.

The music is outstanding. Not very exciting visually, but then what do we want to see metal masters do but play their instruments well? The music alone would be enough for me to normally rate it at 5 stars if not for the very small suspicion that the vocals were lip-synced. Matt Barlow, at the end of "The Last Laugh" when he and J. Shaffer are singing the line "...your life is mine", pulls the mike away from his mouth after the words "your life" and looks as though he wants the crowd to finish the line, but you can still hear Barlow's voice clearly and loudly sing the words "is mine". Now, please forgive me if I'm wrong as this DVD was recorded over two nights so it is possible that we were seeing one night but hearing another (not unheard of in live recordings), but since I wasn't there for either night I/we have no way of knowing if this song was performed both nights. Is this the real reason Shaffer didn't want the DVD released? If not for this suspicion I would very willingly rate it 5 stars.
