An oldie but still exciting
by Becky Henson (Locust Grove, Oklahoma)
this movie might be a little old but it still captivates. My grandkids sat in silence while watching this movie. Love It!!!

Unwatchable
by Rockinghorse Winner (Reseda, CA United States)
Rarely have I been inspired by a terrible film to go to the computer to write a review, but JATA features a leaden script, amateur acting, and the most horrible special effects I've ever seen in a major motion picture. I would have thought that technology was far enough along in 1963 to make FX that seem as technologically advanced as all the other technology at the time. The Wizard of Oz, which came a quarter century earlier, is lightyears ahead of this film. The FX are downright embarassing, not much more than Davy and Goliath or Gumby.
The story is just a literal interpretation of the Greek stories, including heavy borrowing from Homer and the playrights, with the ethical, moral and religious lessons largely extracted.
I had to turn it off about 45 minutes through. It might be scary enough to impress young children, and the myths carry some primeval power to get inside your head, but the real power of the myths is due to Homer, Aeschylus and Euripides' great literary power, which is completely lacking in this hollywood claptrap version.

Then and now
by Meismo
Back in the days of drive in movies, when we were kids, we watched this film and it was thrilling. We also ordered the Clash of the Titans. Both were good entertainment and a step back to our younger days and still a bit thrilling. We were able to share some of those memeories with the kids as they watched the movies. All of us enjoyed it. It made for a great weekend movie.
Amazons delivery was very efficient.

Enjoyable film
by AwakeNow.co.uk (UK)
I first saw this enjoyable film, when i was at middle school and it was played in the school hall. i though it was fab at the time.
Whilst there was no CGI back in the 60s, this is a great movie with monster animation and good affects; like the stop animation with the bone soldiers.

Jason Seeks the Golden Fleece
by John K. Arsenault (Ormond Beach, Fla.)
The story is not as exciting as it was when I first saw it so many years ago, but still a good curl-up on the couch on a rainy or cold afternoon or evening. I like the SinBad stories a bit more.
Jason and the Argonauts Summary
Fantastic Special Effects By Ray Harryhausen And Exciting Mythological Adventure Make This A Film That Is Fun For Everyone. It's The Story Of Jason (todd Armstrong), A Fearless Sailor And Explorer, Who Returns To The Kingdom Of Thessaly After A 20-year Voyage To Make His Rightful Claim To The Throne. But To Do So, Jason Must First Find The Magical Golden Fleece. He Selects A Crew And With The Help Of Hera, Queen Of The Gods, Sets Sail In Search Of The Fleece. Jason And His Crew Must Overcome Incredible Obstacles Including A 100-foot Bronze Giant, The Venomous Hydraa Huge Creature With The Heads Of Seven Snakes, And A Spectacular Battle With An Army Of Skeletons.
Arguably the most intelligently written film to feature the masterful stop-motion animation of Ray Harryhausen,
Jason and the Argonauts
is a colorful adventure that takes full advantage of Harryhausen's "Dynarama" process. Inspired by the Greek myth, the story begins when the fearless explorer Jason (Todd Armstrong) returns to the kingdom of Thessaly to make his rightful claim to the throne, but the gods proclaim that he must first find the magical Golden Fleece. Consulting Hera, the queen of gods, Jason recruits the brave Argonauts to crew his ship, and they embark on their eventful journey. Along the way they encounter a variety of mythic creatures, including the 100-foot bronze god Talos, the batlike Harpies, the seven-headed reptilian Hydra, and an army of skeletons wielding sword and shield. This last sequence remains one of the finest that Harryhausen ever created, and it's still as thrilling as anything from the age of digital special effects. Harryhausen was the true auteur of his fantasy films, and his brilliant animation evokes a timeless sense of wonder.
Jason and the Argonauts
is a prime showcase for Harryhausen's talent--a wondrous product of pure imagination and filmmaking ingenuity. The DVD contains an informative interview with Harryhausen by filmmaker John Landis.
