As thin as an illusion
A moderately-successful drama that plays with the audience's heads in a self-congradulatory fashion; the final revelations (done in a Usual Suspects sort of way) explain very little else than the script thinks it's cleverer than the audie...

Simpler is better
The prestige was a bit too difficult to comprehend, unlike the illusionist which has a simpler concept. The story was reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet minus the tragedy. Acting was pretty basic, not much skill was used in their performances...

Can he make my money reappear?
One of the worst movies for this year. See the Prestige if you want to see a magician film. Paul Giamatti's accent was all over the place. Despite Edward Norton being an excellent actor, Jessica Biel just can't act and gave one of the wors...

One thing that other reviews haven't touched upon is the music of Philip Glass. From the opening theme I realized that I was in for a treat and the film did not disappoint. To imagine this film in another composer's hands does not necess...

Its all just an illusion
A very cool story that doesn't give anything away. That is the only way that this can be really explained. The story is good, and the creativity of the magic of Eisenheim is quite unique. The one thing that this movie does differently is t...

Eisenheim is one of the coolest movie characters
Edward Norton?s most powerful role to date and that is saying a lot! Everything about this movie is amazing. The acting, the magic, the suspense and the mysterious aura that surrounds everything provides for a spectacular movie with an eve...

The Illusionist Quick Review
It's an Edward Norton movie about magic. What more needs to be said?

The Illusionist Quick Review
Yeah, we see EDWARD NORTON in other films like THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, THE PAINTED VEIL, FIGHT CLUB, 25TH HOUR, and THE INCREDIBLE HULK. Stick to those movies.

The Illusionist Quick Review
Edward Norton delivers another great performance and even Jessica Biel is tolerable. Paul Giamatti is likewise excellent as a police chief struggling with his conscience. The end stretches things a bit, but overall I was impressed.

The Illusionist Quick Review
I liked this movie. There were several things about it that I enjoyed. The magic was very interesting, and Norton's performance was great (it could have been better with out the annoying fake accent). Biel's accent is poor at best, but Giamatti's is, as always, perfect. The story line was very fairy tale like. The music, costumes, and setting were gorgeous and a pleasure to watch and view. The ending let me down and some of the character interactions were a little too little. Still, recommended.

A Magician Never Reveals Their Secrets
by Ms. Nuhfer
Kasey Morton Block 2
Everything is not as it may seem magic is just an illusion. The movie The Illusionist is a wonderful movie about a magician who performs many magnificent illusions. He grows famous by everyone and along his journey, finds his long lost love that was taken away from him as a child. Although many love him, the magician faces many problems; he always seems to escape those problems. I recommend this movie because one it ahs adventure. A woman comes face to face with death, but will she survive? Two it has romance, the magician finally finds his love, but will they able to stay together? Three there is suspense, you can't stop watching the movie. In the movie The Illusionist, you'll see the biggest illusion yet!

Love triumphs over all obstacles
by Arthur Ide (Iowa)
Among the best movies I have seen, this shows the corruption in the final stages of the Austro-Hungarian empire, the insanity of a privileged aristocracy, the reality of inventiveness and character, while focusing on the love of a young duchess for a common carpenter-turned-wizard. The story line is compelling and inviting discussion, the characters are believable and brilliant, and the costumes and settings sterling. Neither staid nor ossified, this is one movie for all people, and can be watched repeatedly.

The Illusionist
by CMH (West Texas)
Excellent! A captivating film that keeps you glued to your seat. After viewing a segment on TV, I quickly purchased my own copy and am glad I did. You won't be disappointed.

A decent film: cast and production was very good with unique storyline
by Terrence A. Henderson (WISCONSIN)
ED NORTON and pretty JESSICA BEIL headline this flick. They do a good job . And this is a well done film and noticeably good production values. Story is about an Illusionists who powers captivate the public while he amazes them with his act and his seemingly endless powers. Beil is a childhood friend that re appears in his life as the love that didnt have a chance to blossom. The meet up again and hence we get this story. It was good althoough u do have to suspend any relistic beliefs in what becomes the illusionist act. I was able too accept it as an interesting film with a unique theme and good performances. 4 stars out of 5

Truly Mesmerizing
by Laura De Giorgio (Canada)
Nothing is as it seems here and throughout this movie, based on a masterful story, you are never sure whether Herr Eisenheim has truly developed supernatural powers or whether what he is doing is merely an illusion. Regardless of what may be the case, what he is doing has a tremendous impact and influence upon the minds and lives of people around him - winning the heart of a woman from a higher social class and affecting the life of the son of the emperor. Not only does he accomplish what those around him would consider impossible for a man of his social standing, but he does it with exquisite elegance. The movie is such a feast for my eyes, that I've watched it several times. Edward Norton is fabulous in the role of Herr Eisenheim.

First screened in Europe and scheduled for limited release in the U.S.,
The Illusionist
offers welcome proof that "arthouse" quality needn't be limited to the arthouses. Set in turn-of-the-century Vienna, this stately, elegant period film benefited from a crossover release in mainstream cinemas, and showed considerable box-office staying power--granted, teenage mallrats and lusty males may have been drawn to the allure of
Seventh Heaven
alumna Jessica Biel, who rises to the occasion with a fine performance. But there's equal appeal in the casting of Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti, who bring their formidable talents to bear on the intriguing tale of a celebrated magician named Eisenheim (Norton) whose stage performance offends the Crown Prince Leopold (Rufus Sewell), a vindictive lout who aims to marry Duchess Sophie (Biel), Eisenheim's childhood friend and now, 15 years later, his would-be lover. This romantic rivalry and Eisenheim's increasingly enigmatic craft of illusion are investigated by Chief Inspector Uhl (Giamatti), who's under Leopold's command and is therefore not to be trusted as Eisenheim and Sophie draw closer to their inevitable reunion. Cleverly adapted by director Neil Burger from Steven Millhauser's short story "Eisenheim the Illusionist," and boasting exquisite production values and a fine score by Philip Glass,
The Illusionist
is the kind of class act that fully deserved its unusually wide and appreciative audience. --
