Fakerie is Rachel Shearer's first release under her own name. Since 1997, the New Zealand artist has recorded and performed as Lovely Midget, releasing albums on Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace! and Corpus Hermeticum as well as the Fakerie CD for Family Vineyard in 2003. This new release is a series of aural sculptures digitally shaped for DVD; an image of seven light sources shining out of the black, synchronized with sound passing through seven shifting passages. The images offer an aid for listeners to immerse themselves in the sound. The melodic gesture of the music is minimized, becoming more like a trace of a melody. Sounds are clustered like stars in the sky, crystalline structures, crystal systems, patterns of cells, and white light that references Francois Bayle, Pauline Oliveros, Elanie Radigue, and the natural world.
