Great way to complete your collection
by Mike J. Dolan (Buena Vista, Colorado)
This is really only a rather old TV movie. But saying so badly undervalues an undisputed classic. The casting is superb. The staging is beautiful, with abundant views of locations that at least look completely authentic. The only instance where the producers might have had to skimp, due to budget, was in the guillotine executions in the grand plaza of Paris. But the mood of terror and outrage is still there. And to finally have this on a DVD is a joy, after decades of watching poorly copied videotapes made from off-the-air broadcasts.

The Scarlet Pimpernel

This is a great flick. The acting is superb. The story revolves around the history of the French Revolution. The story is very cleverly written, with humor and passion, and a beautiful love story. I highly recommend this movie. I have already watched it twice, and will watch it again sometime. It's well worth seeing over. You catch some of the things you may have missed the first time.

The Scarlet Pimpernel
by Monica M. Chisolm
I purchased this DVD because I only want to own classic movies in my library. I searched everywhere for it, prior to going to Amazon.com, but could not find it anywhere. I knew that it was an excellent movie, and wanted it for my collection. It takes place during the French Revolution, and is filled with intrigue, mystery and romance. If any of those subjects are interesting to you, I'm sure you'll enjoy this movie. Amazon.com also listed several other versions of the same movie, which are all probably excellent as well, but since I was familiar with this version, and knew that I liked Jane Seymour and Anthony Andrews, it was a win-win for me.

The Scarlet Pimpernel
by Wagner Reviews
One of the most entertaining and fantastic movies ever made! I bought this years ago when my children were very young (only available in VHS). This tape had been played over & over again & we (including my children) have introduced this wonderful film to all their friends & family over the years. Frequently we recite to each other some of the most entertaining and humorous lines..."Sink me". This is a MUST SEE movie... It includes: swashbuckling, political, history, intrigue, masquerading, history, fun, and huge laughter! Do yourself a big favor, don't miss this movie, you won't regret it I promise.

Classic

Everyone needs to watch this classic. It has something for everyone. Even my 4 year olds love to watch this movie.
The Scarlet Pimpernel Summary
The Swashbuckling Classic Comes To Rip-roaring Life In This Lavish Production, Filled With Breathless Romance And Derring-do! In The Eyes Of High Society, Sir Percy Blakeney (brideshead Revisited's Anthony Andrews) Is A Typical Fop, Surrounded By Adoring Ladies And Clueless Gentry. However, He Is Also A Master Of Disguise And Bears An Infamous Secret Identity: The Scarlet Pimpernel, Dashing And Fearless Rescuer Of Victims Of The French Revolution! Sir Percy Also Falls Head Over Heels For The Beautiful Marguerite (somewhere In Time's Jane Seymour), Who Is Also Wooed By The Villainous Paul Chauvelin (the Lord Of The Rings' Sir Ian Mckellan), Robespierre's Chief Agent For The Committee Of National Security. Suave, Stylish, And Utterly Irresistible, This Dazzling Adventure Is Sure To Capture Your Heart!
It's tough trying to beat the 1934 version of the popular adventure-romance story, starring Leslie Howard as the 18th-century British hero who poses as a fop in London society but runs a secret mission to rescue the doomed in Robespierre's Paris. But this 1982 television version, starring Anthony Andrews (
Under the Volcano
) as the Pimpernel and Jane Seymour as his beloved but estranged wife, is quite a treat. Andrews and Seymour expertly capture the essence of a relationship suffering from misunderstandings and elusive passion, and there is plenty of crackle to the action sequences. Clive Donner (
What's New, Pussycat?
) brings some strong cinematic qualities to this television presentation.
