Good primer for Dancehall Culture but be cafeful with the dances
by VXP (California, USA)
I think this is an excellent DVD. It teaches alot about Dancehall Culture. I learned not only about the Dancing but some of the workings of Dancehall. I learned about how the Producers work together with the Dancers and Selectors to break a song. Prior to watching this I didn't know anything about Bogle. Funny thing is I've heard the tribute song many times before but didn't know it was a tribute song to him! I learned alot watching this DVD.
The only bad thing about this is that the dances seem a bit dated. Not a knock on the DVD it's just that I'm late to the party. I orderd & watched this DVD in 2009. It looks like this DVD was recorded between 2002 - 2005. It was released in 2005. The instructional dance sessions for are awesome! If I would've had this DVD say in 2005 or 2006 I would have been fairly current with what I saw going in some of the reggae clubs at the time. Learning these dances now would be like learing the Superman/Soldier Boy dance now. They're old moves. Learn them for fun but don't expect to impress if you do them. You can impress people who aren't familer with Dancehall but those in the know may remember these dances are from a few years ago. You can watch them just to get an idea of how to move to dance hall.

Dancehall 101
by Brooksie Bow (Ohio, USA)
Before you buy this, you can go to YouTube to see some clips to decide if this one's for you. This film is all about dancehall and less about dancing itself. It's not an instructional video in the usual sense, tho you can easily learn the dances from it if you have some basic ideas of the moves. It's basically a documentary showing how the whole thing works w/o much emphasis on any one thing. If you're interested in a crash course about dancehall, meeting it's major players, and seeing it's most popular dances...this may be for you. If you want to learn full on "Bogle style" dance moves, you probably do better w/ the "How Fi Dance" reggae series w/ it's emphasis on specific dances and improvisation.
As several reviews point out (all female, it seems) this video has a serious lack of female specific dance instructions. Most of the emphasis here, like in "How Fi Dance Reggae", is on the fellas and the Bogle style, but little on bubbling, wining, and all that good stuff. The female instructors are mostly former dancehall queens and there's a small piece about them in the extras, but there's little for women interested in learning more typical girl's dancing.
This video has subtitles and nice production values. It's well organized and brings in the very biggest selectors, djs, artistes, and dancers on the scene. Tho this is a bit old, most of the people involved are still at the top so this video is a nice introduction to the scene. If you already have some knowledge of the scene, skip this one. There's YouTube and more underground dvds on the scene where you can catch up w/ the very latest dances and riddims. If you like old school hip hop, you'll love this.

EXCELLENT DVD!!!
by Mark Twain (Brooklyn, NY USA)
This is a great DVD. Contrary to what I saw some people said it contains some very cool dances e.g J.A.G.
If you wanted a good repoirtoire to show off and mash up! your local party(assuming u're not on a Caribbean island or select places in NY) this DVD is a great source(even if you are and you wanted to learn some cool dances, this is great for it). I really enjoyed it and any fan of dancehall would also.
The only way you can not like this DVD is if you are already a really good dancer or you really suck!

Very good instrucional DVD
by Sin
The title says it all. If you are lookin to learn some of the moves to be a dancer within this genre, this will assist a lot. Just pay attention cuz they do it kinda fast.

Not what I was looking for
by Kim E. Brown
I wanted something where the girls teach you how to roll. This instruction was more for video dancers.
It's All About Dancing: Jamaican Dance-U-Mentary Summary
It’s All About Dancing reveals dancehall culture in its truest form. Filmed in Jamaica, this DVD incorporates the best of the local dancehall selectors, DJ’s and dancers, almost all of whom are native to Jamaica including Ding Dong, the host. Other star performers featured are Beenie Man, Elephant Man, T.O.K., Mr. Vegas, Voicemail, Macka Diamond, Tanto Metro & Devonte, Tony Matterhorn, Scatta, Richie Feelings, Bogle, John Hype, Ice, Sadik & G-Unit, Latisha and Kiyo (dancehall queens). Together in one "dance-u-mentary," all the key figures of dancehall describe the style, history, language and their personal definitions of dancehall culture. It’s All About Dancing entertains viewers by showing the essence of dancehall through interviews and candid monologues inter-spliced with improvisational dance sequences that can teach anyone the basics of the cross-cultural, multigenerational, phenomenon called dancehall.
