A one hit wonder, I wonder.
by Terry K. Wolfe (York, PA)
I must admit, I got this album only because I heard the song "Little Death", The best song I've ever heard about fornication. The rest of the album was kind of a disapointment and never kept up with the potential that Little Death offered. It could be that I need to experience them live, but I will say, that one song has everything I love about music rolled up into one song. Some of the guitar licks at the end of the song remind me of Sly Stone's "Sex machine". I hate to say buy the album for that one song, but if you've never heard it, it maybe worth it.

Imperial Crowns get my vore as the best new band for 2006
by Elizer (New York, NY)
The Imperial Crowns are destined to be known worldwide as one of thee great bands! From Los Angeles CA, this dynamic group has it all! Go to imperialcrowns.com for more info.
The IC's are one of those great American bands that will be soon embraced whole-heartedly on their own ground via extensive touring in Europe. The EU live scene has often proven initially more receptive to the newest and hippest trends in music.
With this Live DVD and the February 2006 US Indy release of their landmark CD, Hymn Book (Ruf Records) expect to hear from these guys more in America.
The band's 2 leaders, songwriters & producers, Jimmie Wood (frontman) and J J Holiday (guitarist) are both well-versed in many forms of modern popular & esoteric musics as well. From Blind Willie Johnson to Hendrix, the Beatles to Dr. Dre & back... this duo, with a bassist & drummer wraps it all into one massive musical mix. In this DVD they will take you on the wildest magic carpet ride of a kickass live show ever.
The show, songs, production sounds, new combinations... all feel organic & come at you straight from the heart. It seems you've heard them before somewhere and yet never before at the same time. This modern band is refreshing, raw & intelligent. They feel right for today. This 90+ musical "film noir" rocks end to end.
Excellent band! Buy this DVD, it is a must! See them live & becomed experienced!!!

The Crowns In My Living Room?....That's Livin'!
by Crown Pimp (Monterey, Cal. USA)
Taken from one of their shows in Bonn Germany, this is a great representation of the band who was heralded "LA's best bar band" a few years back..Considering the thousands of groups there, this is no small feat. The songs here are a good blend of their first and second cd's, replete with vocalist and harp ace Jimmie Wood's between song banter, which is usually an intense mix of profanity and spirituality, delivered in his own inimitable style. And I'm so glad they left it all in. Jimmie's epic, articulate ravings are an essential ingredient to any Crowns concert. They could probably make a great cd just of them alone. But throw JJ Holiday and Billy Sullivan into the mix, and you have a rockin' blues machine that doesn't let up. I was puzzled by the crowd though, here in California, there's not the docile, deerintheheadlights immobility at their gigs that's portrayed by most of the Bonn audience. The sound is mixed properly, lots of different angles camera-wise and some amusing extras make for 2 rockin' hours of this fine collaboration. They always have different bass players and John Avila has great energy, fitting right in and adding some competent harmonies. This is truly one of the most creative groups out there, why they're not more well known is...par for the course I guess..These cats have impressive resume's..I won't go through all that.. The music stands on it's own. One of the gig posters says "Johnny Depp's favorite band". If that motivates you to buy this, fine. Pick this up, there's nothing out there like the Imperial Crowns..
Imperial Crowns Summary
The four gentlemen from Los Angeles, California definitely do not commit themselves to a specific style. Their music is "filled with psychedelic garage beats, straight soul stomps and magic voodoo sound" (Blue Rhythm, Summer 2004) and with "wicked swamp
