oh the memories
by C. Mandel (PC, Florida)
GI Joe was one of my favorite shows growing up. I find the dvd's awesome, the only i thought could be better is that it wasn't digitally remastered for today's technology. other than that its great buy for any fan.

Great but....
by Vanessa Roper
I was very excited when this DVD came out. Not only was I able to relive my child hood I was able to share a very cool cartoon with my sons. (The cartoons now a days do not come close to yesterday) However I was disappointed that they did not include the Public Safty Lessons. They were so cheezie, it was the best part of the show. Something that Kids of today can always use. Thats why it only gets four stars from me.

Wonderful Series Set vs. WHAT-THE KECK!?! Current Movie Release
by freelancer26
If this show was a part of your childhood and you wish to take a trip down nostalgia lane, then buy this set without hesitation . . . because the live action version of this series, out yesterday, will disappoint you. Besides the action and stories and military technicalities of this show, I remember loving the interactions of all the different characters and the great chemistry between the friends and romantic couples like Flint and Lady Jay, Destro and the Baroness and especially, Scarlett and Duke. I can only guess that Hasbro has taken leave of its senses because it has recklessly allowed the makers of the film to pull a Bryan Singer and completely change the mythology of this original series. The action scenes were great, the CGI is state of the art, the music is good and the origin story on Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow was well done. TRAGICALLY, it appears that once they decided to cast Sienna Miller as the Baroness, they must have felt compelled to make her the star of the film which meant making her the female lead heroine opposite the male lead hero, Duke!!! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the current released movie version of this wonderful series omits one of the major components of what made this series wonderful in the first place: the original, established love stories.
In this original set, Destro is a burly, deep voiced, authorative, powerful character (easy to understand why the Baroness loves him)- more so than the Cobra Commander versus the movie where he is a stringy, funny looking, squeeky voiced old guy with a Scottish accent and a stalker-like attitude toward the Baroness!
In the original series, the Baroness, herself, is a deliciously cool and conniving character integral to the workings of the COBRA organization versus the current film which actually starts really well then slams you into a twisted, distracting, boring and idiotic thread where the Baroness is made out to be an American under mind control by the little brother (Cobra Commander) she believed dead, caused by the guy she was engaged to - Duke.
In the series, Scarlett is THE number one woman on the Joe Team and in Duke's heart. In the TERRIBLY written movie, Scarlett has a crush on - Ripcord.
The sheer stupidity that Hollywood film makers keep engaging in time after time after time is mind blowing! If something is good, they always think they can make it better. If something is NOT broken, they ruin it!! Wether it's giving Lois Lane an illigitmate child and turning Superman into a stalker a la Mr. Bryan Singer, or introducing superlana and previously non-existant sidekick chloe to Smallville, or even dishing out millions of dollars to give Halle Berry the chance to show off her more-animal-than-human moronic and unattractive version of Catwoman, you can almost always count on those selfless movie people to do away with nice bits of childhood art appreciation and hand you the tripe concocted by their ginormously over-priced egos instead!
The exception of changing mythos is Transformers. In the original series, there was no love story. What's more, I always thought it was funny how the Dad and son who befriend the Autobots were always wearing their yellow hard hats. In the two live action movies, for once, spielberg's team, actually improved on an already established storyline by adding a love story and digging deeper into the human/robot friendship. It is just plain SAD that G.I. Joe was not given better movie treatment because, again, there were already established love stories that would have been fun to see translated onto the big screen.
I highly reccomend this set. Buy it, enjoy it . . . because if you were a G.I. Joe fan in your childhood, the movie currently in theaters will bum you out.

Worth the price for the animated films
by picardfan007 (USA)
What surprised me was Marvel didn't do the same for it's Hulk or Spider Man at the time. It would have been nice to see a feature film animation treatment this one had. All in all I did love to see these again unedited and without commercials. After watching the characters interact I wanted to see the eventual series. It's too bad there isn't a CGI version on the air today. We need G.I. Joe on TV more than ever. Yo Joe!
