A stunning and highly satisfying performance
by Igor Galitsky (Sydney,Australia)
A fairy tale ballet is really brought to life.Imaginative and colourful
settings compliment a brilliant and accomplished performance by a very talented and sensitive Company and guest star.

My Most Enjoyable Swan Lake So Far
by E. Barkley (California)
Finally, there is a production of Swan Lake that doesn't absolutely depress me or put me to sleep, if you can imagine such a thing. Unlike La Scala's production of Giselle, the orchestral score is outstanding and if you are a Maxwell Parrish fan, as I am, the sets take one back to a time of mythical bliss. Quite frankly, this production fits the story line of Swan Lake as I have always imagined it should be in my head. I have seen Fonteyne's and Makharova's performances and Baryshnikov's choreography and all three left me numb . . . in fact, I couldn't finish watching any to the end (we were live for Baryshnikov's premiere). I am not normally a Zakharova fan but she hit the part right on, and I still say that Roberto Bolle is underestimated for his technical skill. What a thrill and delight to see these two performing together, plus the corps de ballet were near perfection. Now, I can enjoy watching this over and over again. And I must confess--for those who have read my other critiques--the camera person has not been at fault on my recently acquired DVDs for cutting off the footwork of the danseurs; my remote control had reset my plasma screen for zoom viewing without my knowing. Now, I have had the satisfaction of going back and watching the performances of La Scala's Giselle and Bolshoi's The Pharoah's Daughter again without the stress of having the critical footwork chopped off at the bottom of my screen.

swan lake
by vagador (uk)
i watch this twice a week, i have six versions but cannot get past this one. a previous reviewer used the description (touch me if you dare)which i thought described miss zakharova perfectly.
the principal dancers and corps also costumes and sets are exellent this is absolutely the best dvd i have ever bought and is value for money, plus the extras . the two principals could walk or dance on swan lake, i love it, can you tell.

classical ballet
by Martha Caflisch (Zürich, Switzerland)
Zakharova dazzles with her technique and unique style. A true ambassador of the Bolshoi's contemporary dancers in the 21st century.

Fantastic Performance
by Frank Cannonito (Irvine, CA USA)
This is the most phenominal performance of Swan Lake I have ever seen. Svetlana Zakharova has everything required of a great prima ballarina. Her fluid arm movment, incredible extension, limber form are all wedded to the most expressive performance of Odille I know. The pas de deux in act 2 is langorously performed. Miss Zakharova tantilizes the audience with exquisitely lyrical movement all in the service of the character. She is ably partnered by Roberto Bolle who is himself extraordinary. What is especially appealing about this performance is its staging conceived with TV and DVD in mind. The costumes, the court coreography are wonderful. Antonino Sutara as the Jester is worthy of praise as are the quartet and trio of swans. If you have only one performance of Swan Lake let this be it.
