Great purchase!
by C. Blackmon
I did not get the chance to see this movie when it came out in the theater, so I waited for it to come out to rent on DVD. I loved it so much that I wanted to buy a copy. When DVD's first come out for sale they are usually retail or full price at first then come down with time. I was waiting for the price to come down and then I would buy it. However, I found a new one for a great price on Amazon and decided to go ahead and get it. Now I own one earlier than expected.

Didn't know that chick flix coud be offensive.
by aglaia (New York City)
I never read the book so this review is solely for the movie version. I rented this movie from a local library to lighten up. I love chick flix - I even enjoyed House Bunny recently. In this movie the supposedly adorable looking heroine Becky gets into a huge credit card debt. One thing like a hot dog stand where she wanted to get "cash back" - HA! - to another, she gets hired by a uber wealthy, handsome, young bachelor who is not spoiled at all by his silver spoon that he was born with (yet who could not resist hiring a girl who was sticking her bum into his face at the interview table). And then MIRACULOUSLY her writing becomes a big hit and of course her knight in shining armor falls for her. Do we need more of this non-sense? Cindrella syndrome is in every woman including myself but not this far, not in this way. Becky has no distinctive character like Elle Woods from Legally Blonde or Cher in Clueless. The acting is mediocre at best failing miserably bringing out the characters in any possibly believable way and I personally think Isla Fisher tried way too hard to look cute. This is the first chickflix that made me feel insulted. I adore chick flix and they usually have some backbones but not this kind of jellyfish mumbo jumbo.

Confessions of a Disappointed Viewer
by YankeeChick (Wisconsin)
This movie just left me flat. The "heroine" (I hesitate to call her that)is immature, materialistic, untruthful and uses her cutesy mannerisms to try and get her out of tough situations. The "hero" turns her into a great writer by taking her to a press conference and having her rudely interrupt someone doing a presentation--all of a sudden, WHOOPS!, she's an unbelievably gifted writer and her column alone is saving his magazine from the dull and drearies. The one person actually doing his job, the bill-collector, is portrayed as mean, rude and physically unattractive. When he finally gets fed up with the girl's lies and dodging her financial responsibilies, he outs her on televison (although most talk shows take months & months to get tickets to). She miraculously grows up and redeems herself to her friends, family, and boyfriend (aforementioned hero who is supposed to be attracted to her for some reason, although the chemistry between them is a complete non-occurrence). What a dumb movie.

DELIGHTFUL
by Crystal&Co.
I enjoyed Confessions of a Shopaholic. It had humor that appealed to me and was a chick-flick I could tolerate, very much like The Devil Wears Prada but not as great. It's a chick movie without being completely stupid, and I love Samantha's character and the silly lies she comes up with to cover her secret.
I also love how she's a tad ditzy but still smart and educated due to her background in journalism.

disappointing puff of air
by carmenmiranda
The thing that made this character different, in the book, was her basic sweet goodness which was so interestingly and hilariously coupled with all those faults. The movie changed that and in doing so, changed everything. And then it became just a movie about a silly, thoughtless girl who runs through life, and money, as if nothing had any consequences and THE most important thing was her next purchase. I like Isla Fisher and thought it would be more interesting but it just seemed like a different version of The Devil Wears Prada. And I mean that in a bad way.
