Suzanne steals some scenes
by Franklin Godfrey (Wash., DC USA)
The DVD was delivered new, unwrapped. This movie is made memorable by
having the enchanting Suzanne Pleshette in a starring role. Pleshette
plays a vacationer who falls in love with a tour guide played by
Ian McShane. Pleshette and McShane seemed to have good chemistry in
their scenes together. Look, also, for the scene where Pleshette by herself makes the ill advised decision to drive her rental car amidst the busy traffic in, I believe, Venice. She becomes flustered by driving among the fast moving traffic while at the same time having to decipher the
assortment of the local traffic directional signs and making the necessary
turns. Of course, she gets upset, causes a fender bender, and afterward
gets involved in an argument with and pushed into the drink (water) by the locals. Suzanne Pleshette fans should definitely see this. Norman Fell,
Sandy Baron and others are good in supporting roles. 1960's pop music
sensation Donovan appears and sings in a scene. Robert Vaughn (TV's "Man
From U.N.C.L.E.") and other well known performers appear in cameos. The
movie is a funny tale about the discomforts that go along with taking an
extended tour on a bus and staying more than one night on the same floors
of hotels along with the same strangers.

A Classic Travel Movie
by Ian Holdsworth (Melbourne, Australia)
This movie is a classic travel movie, which hasn't aged very much and is still relevant today. It highlights some the fun and pitfalls of package tours. I would recommend to this movie to everybody who has ever travelled, particularly on package tours!!

Good '60s comedy
by Steve in Memphis (Memphis Tennessee)
This is a good '60s comedy. I had not seen it in years, and bought the DVD from Amazon. It was a good Saturday night entertainment. If you want a GREAT '60 comedy about Europe, get the ORIGINAL Italian Job with Michael Caine. It is miles ahead of the forgettable remake. It is a little risque' in places, but it is a scream.

Great service - Received product just as advertised
by Ernest J. Warner (Anaheim, CA USA)
Great service - Received product (NEW DVD) just as advertised, faster the the maximum time-and almost at the minimum. They did what they said, what more could they have done!?

A Young Woman On The Verge Of Marriage Departs For A Whirlwind Guided Tour Of 9 Countries In 18 Days. The Group She Meets Helps Her Decide If She Should Commit To The Middle Class Life She's Headed For Or Make A Life-changing Commitment To Freedom And Fun!
Suzanne Pleshette, who never got the career she deserved, achieved TV success as the skeptical wife on
The Bob Newhart Show
, but
If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium
--a 1969 comedy about tourists on a speed tour of Europe--shows off the movie star that Pleshette could have been. The movie sounds like an excuse for a lot of cheap gags, and there are plenty of broad jokes, but they're balanced by sly satirical bits that cut both ways (the vulgar Americans and the cynical Europeans get equally mocked). Even more unexpected are moments of lyricism, cross-cultural generosity, and bittersweetness, such as when a veteran finally re-meets the Italian woman he's been holding a torch for since World War II. These swift but skillful vignettes get fleshed out by a great crew of late-60s character actors and comedians. Holding the episodes together is the ongoing flirtation between Pleshette's no-nonsense Minnesota businesswoman and the wily British tour guide played by Ian McShane (fans of
Deadwood
will gape in astonishment at his boyish youth). McShane is shamelessly charming, but Pleshette is ravishing, both sensible and drop-dead sexy. The combination sounds improbable, but when she's standing on a balcony, drowsily surveying Rome in the morning light, and wearing nothing but a man's shirt, Pleshette fuses what-the-hell pleasure with the knowledge that, sometimes, things just don't work out. She's heartbreaking and resilient; this woman should have been a star.
If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium
is a deeply enjoyable movie with a unique combination of humor and humanity that holds up remarkably well.
