At last....
by James M. Clark (Michigan, USA)
I am elated the series is becoming available in a DVD format. Third Watch should still be running every week. In my opinion, one of the two best action/police shows ever produced to date; the other being Hill Street Blues. One cannot beat this set for timely stories, quality actors and excellent DVD fidelity. A good buy for everyone.

Will be ordering the second season also
by Miss Bianca (Puerto Rico)
I purchased this because my boyfriend saw an episode and loved it (he's a firemedic so this is the perfect show for him). It was about half the price than in stores here and arrived in just a couple of days through regular shipping. I have to admit I got hooked with Third Watch, only a couple of episodes left to watch and am already planning on ordering the second season.

Great show
by Sherry Martin (Joshua, TX)
This was my first time to purchase on Amazon.com. I was a little scared but I went ahead and purchased the DVD set for my sister's birthday. I purchased Third Watch-The Complete First Season, brand new. I was really impressed on the communication I received from the seller and how quickly I received it. The set was in mint condition all sealed and everything just like it said in the description. It was a pleasant experience. My sister has already started watching the series and is in heaven. She loved this show. The only thing I wish Amazon would do is accept Paypal payments. I would feel much better about my transactions. Overall, I am very pleased and will purchase again.

A Classic In EVERY Sense of the Word!
by So Attractive (San Diego, California)
I watched THIRD WATCH from its inception in 1999. I have always been drawn to dramatic, ensemble pieces, but THIRD WATCH grabbed me as a unique, character-driven masterpiece from the very first episode. It usually takes several episodes for a cast to really work well together, "get to know" each other. Literally, from the first episode, it appeared as though all of the characters from all three services: police, fire and paramedic, had been working together for years. It is a combination of the brilliant writing, stellar acting (SKIPP SUDDUTH, COBY BELL, JASON WILES and MOLLY PRICE in particular) and camerawork that made this show real and true from day one. Thanks to all of the wonderful contributors to this iconic materpiece (writers, producers, actors, directors, etc.)! It is a shame that it had to end. It could have gone on for years, much like "ER" did. I am not quite sure what made the viewers lose interest, but I am a die-hard fan that will enjoy every minute of the series on DVD!

Great First Season; Not so Great DVD Set!
by RJRo20 (California)
Third Watch was a great show for the first few seasons. I watched most of 1-4, but was on and off for the rest of the series.
Got to say that this DVD set does NOT do the show any justice. It's terrible!
There are three DVD cases, each containing two discs; there's a total of 22 episodes. The first DVD case is fine. However, the last two cases suck! The plastic holder in the middle is broken in one or two places, so whenever I open them the DVDs fall out and into each other. Very annoying!
The DVD extras are pretty lame as well. The featurette includes some of the cast members (Skip, Jason, Anthony, Michael, and Coby come to mind) and creators of the show. It's short and not very insightful. Plus, the gag reel doesn't provide much laughs--just clips of actors screwing up lines and laughing at each other. Ha-ha.
All in all, I give the 1st season 5 stars and this DVD package a 3 star-rating. If you're a fan of the show, there's no choice. I even pre-ordered the 2nd season. You just have to settle for the DVD sets if you want to see the show in its entirety. Unfortunately, there aren't anymore reruns of Third Watch. (As far as I know). Otherwise, I'd record them with my own DVD discs and save so much money--plus with the original music to enjoy!
NOTE (8.2.09): I recently received the 2nd season in a set containing all 6 DVDs in ONE case. It had no problems! It was nicer than the set I got for the 1st season, which apparently had two types of packaging--one with all 6 DVDs in a single case and the other with all 6 DVDs in 3 separate cases.

received critical raves when it premiered in 1999 on NBC. All 22 episodes from that first season are included in this 6-disc box set, and the episodes (many of which reflect political issues of the time) stand up well. The third watch refers to the 3 to 11 p.m. shift of firefighters, police officers and paramedics who risk their lives to keep New Yorkers safe. The show focuses on the lives of a handful of characters who are complicated, flawed, and charismatic. Kim Raver (

) shines as Kim, a paramedic who shares a strong bond with both her partner Bobby (Bobby Cannavale) as well as her ex-husband Jimmy (Eddie Cibrian), a firefighter with a predilection for gambling who clearly isn't over Kim. Created by John Wells (

The West Wing

Third Watch
is well written and paces the storylines well. The episodes' endings reflect that not every case is easily solved and that there are unpleasant consequences involved in protecting the rights that many of us take for granted. None of the main characters are presented as over-the-top heroes, but rather as hardworking people doing the best they can. The show at times goes out of its way to depict how flawed some of them are, but the actors deftly draw the focus back to the bigger picture--how to protect people who seem intent on self-destruction. Through the first season, the characters will face addiction, heartbreak, and fear. The one thing that dates the show is the full frame presentation, which belies its era. The special features aren't particularly noteworthy--there's a blooper reel and a "making of" featurette, but no deleted scenes or audio commentary on any of the episodes.
